I was reading somewhere that in Australia a poll was taken and a small percentage around 5% of Aussies claimed their religion as Jedi.

I think it might be an urban legend. I heard that if at least 5% of UK consensus forms came back with Jedi in the religion box then it had to be classed as a legal religion ie: legal holidays etc.

The last one I remember, my mother was quite rude in the fact that she filled my religion in as Church of England before I even saw it.

Btw: you people calling those who do follow the Jedi religion or the ways of the fource, what right do you have to call it silly. Just because some guy wrote it originally to be a work of fiction, there is no proof that the 'holy' books out there weren't originally intended to be taken the same way.

I understand that it was as a result of an e-mail that was passed around before a census. Obviously 5% played along and marked Jedi as their religion.

Obviously, some people are taking fiction and making it reality.(Don't think it'll actually WORK in this case, you know, we don't have REAL lightsabers!) But I've had a run-in on here with someone before who got really p.o'd when I challenged her Jedi beliefs! Pretty funny. People just want something to believe in , something other than God, for whatever reason. I don't get it, though!

That's stupid. Jedi was made up for the Star Wars films. If that is true, then 5% of the population of Australia are idiots.

speaking as an Aussie......

yes, 5% put down Jedi in the consensus because they were misinformed that enough people saying it couldlegitimize it.

And honestly, think of the fanboy base of gullible people you could sucker into it.

But then the numbers were down from the last consensus, where it was about 7% from memory.........

We just don't take things too seriously.

George Lucas actually created the "jedi" concept in star wars around buddhism and its warrior monks

It's a decent number in England, too, if I remember correctly. I don't think it's "officially" recognized anywhere, but many people choose to follow the path. Truth be told, it's not far off from Buddhism.

No. It would be nondenominational. They are very much into themselves by all accounts and if episode 1 2 & 3 are any indication of their beliefs then if you are not one of them they dont care about you. Very cold and critical if you ask me. Now the SITH....They were interesting!
