The entirely unearthly Mithras was worshipped as the "Good Shepherd", "the Way, the Truth and the Light", and as a redeemer, saviour and Messiah. Mithras was supposed to have been born to a virgin on what is now 25 December, and was visited by shepherds and Magi. He travelled and taught, cast out devils, made miracle cures, held a last supper, was killed, buried in a rock tomb and rose again after three days, at the time of the spring equinox in March (equivalent to the Christian Easter). Mithraism included baptism and Sunday worship, with a Eucharist and sacraments.

Mithra's birth was witnessed by shepherds and by Magi bearing gifts to his sacred birth-cave of the Rock (J. Smith 146). Mithra's image was buried in a rock tomb, a sacred cave that represented his Mother's womb. This was ritualistically removed each year, and he was said to live again. Mithra's triumph and ascension to heaven were celebrated during the spring equinox.

The similarities are striking.

eg. dogma, cult of personality, belief in a certain one true path, intolerance of other systems, obligation to tow the "party line" etc

Could communism, facism etc be considered as religions in themselves ?

Or at least could they be considered a very close cousin to religion ?

I ask this because many theists attempt to show the "evilness" of atheism by saying communist russia was atheist.

While thinking about this I wondered if in fact religion had more in common with communism and facism.

and spirit, who does not have the need to procreate. Then why is God a "He"? Why can't I call God "She" without being "Frowned upon"?

I asked :

"Christians, what type of stones should I use when stoning my unruly child in accordance with the bible ? "

as a way of pointing out the pure ridiclous nature of much of the bible's content and some crazy fundamentalist has it removed.

What is it with this fear of questioning and enquiry ?

Should I just shut up and say nothing when I come across horrible violence in the bible ?

Is it that they know that if even one part of their bible is shown to be ridiculous.... the whole thing crumbles ?

Most of the religions in the rest of the world cannot be bothered to go around converting people. They don't descibes pictures of eternal damnation to scare the population into joining them. Why does the christians hold on so tightly to their beliefs? Can't they open their minds to concepts thats foreign to their bringing up. As to 'saving' the heathens, can't they accept that they do not want to be saved by God???

Why do we assume that our opinions even matter on the subject? if you look the word heathen up in the dictionary, and the definition describes you, then you may answer- I have not said that being a heathen is bad or made any judgements

Despite what you may think about the JW NWT, the fact is that most of their members know the Bible as a whole. They read it, and the KJV, repeatedly, from childhood on up. By the time they reach the age where they begin developing conceptual thought process, JW children have a basic knowledge of the context of the Bible and can answer questions such as what is the first prophecy of the Bible?

Tonight I dropped off students at a theology school where they receive an education for a "career" as ministers and preachers. Of the five, none could quickly name the first prophecy. Secondly, when asked what day for they observe the Memorial on, they all said a day in May, rather than the Memorial of the Last Supper.

So, how can JWs teach the Bible, even the KJV, far better than any other religions, and even many Bible schools and colleges? If all the other religions are correct, and have the Blessings of the Holy Spirit, shouldn't every member have a complete knowledge of the Bible?

I have a friend that is Catholic and she can't seem to explain to me why Catholics ask or pray to the Virgin Mary to get in touch with God. In John 14:6 Jesus clearly states, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

So, why would you go to Mary when you could just Pray to Jesus himself. Does your blessing come from Mary or Jesus?

It's like they are giving Mary mother of Jesus Power over him. God has all power.

Can someone please expound on this (With a Mature response please)

Consider this quesiton very carefully:

Is Christianity the only religion where God Incarnate came down to raise humans up as adopted Sons and Daughters of God, and every other religion YOU are expected to REACH UP to God? Is this a true statement or a false statement?

Steve Irwin arrives in heaven.
God says "Steve you've been a decent bloke, did nice things and made everybody feel welcome, you can have something in heaven that you treasure from Earth. Whatever it is I'll get it up for you".

Steve leans over and whispers in Gods ear.......

Next day it arrives in heaven.
Steve's jaw drops.
He looks at God and says:
"God, I said CROCK not BROCK."

How many croc hunters does it take to capture a sting-ray?
Apparently more than one.

Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo is now serving Sting Ray...
It's Expensive, but Steve reckons "It's to die for!"

In a recent interview Steve Irwin was asked what his favourite TV
programme was. "Thunderbirds", he replied, "But Stingray will always
have a special place in my heart."

Steve Irwin's funeral music has been chosen by his wife - Crocodile
rock, sung by Sting.

Steve should have used more sun block to keep out the harmful rays.

Maybe Steve Irwin should have been wearing his Ray Bans!

How did Steve Irwin die?
He had a heart attacked...

Did you hear that steve irwin died like he lived?
With animals in his heart.

I came up with these on my own lol. What can you come up with?
