As a person changes his old garments to get new ones, you will change your body to a new one once it becomes disfunctional. You are not your body, hence you dont die when your body dies. The body is gross material substance made of chemicals. But, only because the soul is present it is functional. Consciousness is a symptom of the soul not of the body or the mind.
There are 8,400,000 species in this world. After death you may get a body of any one species out of these. Here the act of karma comes into picture. We know that humans have superior intelligence than that of animals. Animals only know how to eat, sleep, mate and defend. The purpose of human life is to enquire about the soul. If we dont do this then we are no better than animals. If you lead an animalistic life you will certainly get a corresponding body in your next life.

The main problem concerned with the question is that one should first know wherefrom a man comes when he is born.

If you are a die hard materialist then I can inform you that with death a person is finished. Nothing of that individual personality remains after death.This is true as per material science. After death, the body and the soul will go to source from where they came. The body, made of the elements go back to the elements, like fire or earth. The soul that came from the Universal Consciousness ie God, who is the very essence of Spirit all pervading and omnipotent go back to a different sheath of consciousness.
