Which god? There seems to be more than one anyway. Maybe they have elections every few centuries or something.

God is always God. This position is already occupied eternally. God is one, He cannot be two. He can still be God and simultaneously perfom all other things, because His energies are acting perfectly under His will. So, He doesn't have to abdicate His position to take rest or do something else. Everything is perfectly done by His energies for His pleasure.
The other thing is that in the material world there are countless living beings who artificially try to take the position of God, or the lord, master and enjoyer. This will never make us happy though because our original position is to be subservient to Him.

Did you forget what GOD did to Lucifer (Satan) for trying to play God?
"I am the LORD thy GOD, and there is none else."
"And him shall you worship only, saith the LORD."
