Alcohol has been the scourge of human society since time immemorial. It continues to cost countless human lives, and causes terrible misery to millions throughout the world. Alcohol is the root cause of several problems facing society. The statistics of soaring crime rates, increasing instances of mental illnesses and millions of broken homes throughout the world bear mute testimony to the destructive power of alcohol.


1. Prohibition of alcohol in the Qur’an

The Glorious Qur’an prohibits the consumption of alcohol in the following verse:

"O ye who believe! Intoxicants and Gambling,
(Dedication of) stones, And (divination by) arrows,Are an Abomination – Of Satan’s handiwork; Eschew such (abomination),T hat ye may prosper."[Al-Qur’an 5:90]



2. Prohibition of alcohol in the Bible

The Bible prohibits the consumption of alcohol in the following verses:

1. "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging; and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise."
[Proverbs 20:1]
2. "And be not drunk with wine."
[Ephesians 5:18]

Having said so, it is also noted, Qur'an acknowledge good / profit of "strong drink" , although it is MORE deterimental to mankind, hence the prohibition

2:219 They question thee about strong drink and games of chance. Say: In both is great sin, and (some) utility for men; but the sin of them is greater than their usefulness.

Muslims are not supposed to use alcohol but when I was in Aden they chewed a leaf called Qat all the time and this seemed to make their driving as bad as any drunk.

root beer is allowed.

bud, Heineken and Sam Adams (or anything like that) is not allowed.

odouls - i would say not allowed as it contains a minor amount of alcohol.

All alcoholic drinks are prohibited.

Non alcoholic beer is okay....though not beneficial in any way
