Two different holidays that fall on the same days. I believe that the Roman Catholic Church called it Easter. Most of Roman Catholicism is pagan anyway. The Roman Catholic Church is actually not the original Christian Church. The Roman Catholic Church was founded in 538 AD by Justinian the 1st of the Byzantine empire (the eastern Roman empire). Justinian decreed that the Bishop of Rome was the head of all of the Churches in Western Europe. All religions were brought under the Pope's control including Christianity. This is why their is so much paganism in the Roman Catholic Church. The Protestant reformers actually believed that Roman Catholicism was anti-christ. They believed that the seat of the pope in the Vatican is the throne of the anti-christ. They believe that the office of the pope was the office of the anti-christ. This is why some people believe that the next Pope will be the Anti-christ.
Christians never called it Easter the Romans did because pagans celebrated a pagan holiday before Jesus was actually crucified. Isn't it interesting that Jesus would end Satan's hold on a pagan holiday that glorified Satan and not God the Father?

Many Christians are now calling Easter "Resurrection Sunday" just because of the pagan name. Ressurection Sunday is a celebration of Christ coming back to life after he was crucified like He promised He would when He said "destroy my temple and it will be rebuilt in 3 days" Christ was crucified on Friday and rose again in 3 days, Ressurection Sunday.

My guess is that they are hold overs from many of the pagan beliefs Christianity assimilated over the centuries. The Christian faith is a pure faith, much in the same way that if a cow is born in a tree it's a bird...
There are hundreds of examples of pagan practices in the Christian church. Kinda funny if you think about it. The original faith was so morbidly disturbing that they had to adopt pagan practices. Now it's one of the largest growing religions in the world.
It took stealing the beliefs of other people to make it palatable enough to gain converts. So much for "Thou shalt not steal", eh? ROFLMAO!

Easter for christians is the day that Jesus rose. In a sense, a celebration of life. So the egg and bunny symbols would also apply. It's ment to be a time of celebration.

I think it is because they don't know any better...man called Easter and taught it as one of God's Holy days.
God called all of His Holy days in His written word. Easter is not one of them. Easter was a pagan holiday, celebrating fertility, brought into the church to increase membership.
God called "Passover", He said celebrate it forever....God is the same yesterday, today, forever...God is unchanging!
God's law has not changed only the works of the law.. We're saved not by the works but by grace through faith!
Jesus celebrated the "Passover" in obedience to God; Jesus also taught us the new testament way of celebrating the "Passover", to be done in remberance of Him (The New Testament/Covenant way is.....Communion!...His flesh, His blood).
Christ became our passover lamb...He's the lamb God provided to be sacrificed, the lamb which freed us from the bondage of sin, of death giving us the freedom of Life.
1Corinthians 5:7-8 (KJV)
Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Chirst our passover is sacrificed for us:
(v 8) Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
Luke 22:19 (KJV)...Jesus speaking: This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
Luke 22:20 (KJV)...Jesus speaking: This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
Jesus did not abolish the law only the works of the law!

Not all of us want bunnies and chocolate eggs around us! Some do actually celebrate the true meaning of that!

Because the original name is Eoster. It's just a derivation with, once again, Christianity trying to change things to make them more acceptable to convert people.
