Tantra yoga is a path in Hinduism that some Hindus use. It is basically the opposite path of the ascetic path....some tantric teachers call it the exstatic path. In Hinduism there are many paths, most fall in the middle between ascetic and exstatic.

Tantra yoga teaches that one can gain the power of enlightenment now. This is done through a series of mental exercises and disciplines. One such lesson, which includes sexual activity (but also includes bathing, eating, etc) is to view those activities from a perspective of it being from God. Example: you are brushing your teeth. While brushing your teeth mentally focus on the idea that you are brushing God's teeth. When you bathe, focus on the concept that you are bathing God's body. The idea is to remove duality and illusion.

Br. William Schindler is a tantric teacher that leads Ashram West in Los Angeles. I have had the priveldge of meeting him and can verify that he is definately enlightened and know what he's talking about. While I am not a student of Br. William (and am not a tantric....I practice bhakti yoga) I would recommend him as a great source of information on tantra. He studied with tantric teachers in India and Indian teachers that came to the US. It was, in fact, his guru that requested he establish Ashram West and teach after his enlightenment. Br. William has several books as well that you can purchase from him or on Amazon.com. One is called "Gay Tantra", which while written for a gay person directly, it goes over all the philosophy, practices, and history of tantra yoga. He has a fictional book as well that uses fictional characters and imagery to teach more about tantra yogic teachings and philosophy.

You can contact Br. William through his website at http://www.gaytantra.org . There may be other tantric teachers that he could recommend that may live near you. I was fortunate in that some of the members of the local satsangs in my area are his students and so he came out to visit all the local satsangs where he gave talks and held question and answer sessions (we're a small group so we got to ask a lot of questions). He did mention other teachers during the talk, but I apologize that I do not remember their names. If anything, his book is one of the best books on tantra I've read in that it isn't too heavy on the foreign words and explains everything very well. Another book I've read is simply called "Tantra : Path of Ecstasy" by Georg Phd Feuerstein. It was a good book, but sometimes difficult to read in that he doesn't always clarify some of the meanings (I think the author assumes you know some of the terms).

Because of a lot of the confusion in the west about tantra a lot of traditional tantra teachers have changes the name to kundalini yoga (because the chakras and raising the kundalini energy is part of tantra). Neotantra (which in the west unfortunately just goes by "tantra") was started in the twentieth century by a gentleman who visited India and heard about tantra (but did not meet any actual tantrics). Mainly he heard rumors and bits and pieces so he took all that information with him back to Europe and then basically filled in the missing pieces on his own. As "Tantra" grew more popular in Europe it did finally get back to the teachers of tantra yoga in India who decided to try to correct the harm that was being done upon this ancient yogic tradition. When the gentleman learned of his error he changed the name. After seeing that the name wasn't catching on (and by now his version had reached America) he labeled it "NeoTantra" and asked all those following the practice to call it that. Unfortunately it fell on deaf ears (probably because you can't make as much money if you call it NeoTantra). The gentleman repeatedly apologized to Hindu friends he had about his error later in life, to which of course Hindus forgave him. Thus, with no real effects by all the efforts of Hindus to correct this trend many have simply renamed the tradition in the west to kundalini yoga.

If you are interested in learning more about Hinduism in general (besides just tantra yoga) I recommend the following books:
"The Complete Idiot's Guide To Hinduism" - though you are obviously no idiot, nor am I, the author, a western Hindu herself who teaches HInduism, does an excellent job of introducing Hinduism and its many aspects
"Am I A Hindu?" - this is a good book written in conversation style between a father and a son and covers a lot of Hindu philosophy and practices in good detail
"Window Into The Infinite" - this is an excellent book on commentary on the many sacred texts of Hinduism. It discusses the yogic paths, the philosophies, the theologies, etc of Hinduism

Some excellent websites on Hinduism that I recommend are:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion
http://www.religioustolerance.org
http://www.hindukids.org
http://www.beliefnet.org
http://www.himalayanacademy.org

When searching online it is best to search for "kundalini yoga" instead of "tantra" or "tantra yoga"....you get more credible results. You can also search "Kaula Tantra"...Kaula is the begining level of tantra (there are three levels).

Hope this helps.

Peace be with you.

Part of the exercises in tantric practice involve controlling and transforming bodily energies. Sexual energy happens to be one of the strongest forms of physical energy; simply said, it is built-in by nature to ensure the survival of our species. Also these sexual energies need to be completely controlled and transformed in order to become a fully enlightened Buddha. What is usually overlooked is that sexual practices in tantra should be free from the ordinary desires and lust, and generally only very advanced practitioners should try these practices after permission from their teachers. Simply said, it has very little to do with ordinary sex. Arousal of the sexual energy is preferably done by just visualising a consort.

The union of male and female are symbolic for the union of method or compassion and wisdom, or more specific, the union of bliss and (the wisdom of) emptiness.

Sex is any intimate exercise you do with anyone else who isn't your real love. Then it is referred to as lovemaking. Most folks don't outline intercourse as intercourse=penetration. When they are saying I had intercourse for two one million/two hrs, they mostly imply the complete consultation from after they hit the mattress (or flooring or something) to after they fall clear of every different fully exhausted. There are a few ladies that would more commonly revel in penetration for that period of time however I guess that record is brief. Or until a copious quantity of lubricant is carried out. And then I surely doubt many ladies would orgasm a couple of instances in two one million/two hours. There don't seem to be that many nymphomaniacs on this planet. Marathon intercourse will have to no longer be the best target, superbly gratifying intercourse will put on the frame out in mins for this reason requiring no additional attempt to extend it.

It has to do with sexual mechanics: breath-control, chakras (centers of energy), and prolonging sexual activity, as I understand it.

I do not have much use for it.

Find a generous person who loves you, and who is good at it, and you will have better luck! :-))

FOCUS on one another, and the other's pleasure, and it gets very spiritual, very fast!

Some of the best lovers that I have ever had never even HEARD of the Tantra (and, possibly), couldn't even SPELL it. :-))

If you're such a goddamn prude that you think the word "sex" should be censored, then I don't think you deserve to know.
