I think we will be as we are now: equal in worth and dignity, equal in being loved by God. But will we be equal in the sense of the same? God forbid! One of the chief pleasures of this life, as of the next, is the mutual sharing of different excellences, the pleasure of looking up to someone who is better than we are at something and learning from him or her. The resentment expressed in saying, "I'm just as good as you are" is hellish, not heavenly. (By the way, that is one sentence that always means the opposite of what it says. No one who says it believes it.)

Tonight while Trick or Treating with my girlfriend's daughter, she recieved a pamphlet saying that Trick or Treating was bad and I should repent from doing this basically. Here's the question...Do you think its right for Christians(the name of the church was on stamped on the back of it) to sit on their porch smiling while handing out "propaganda" against the very thing they are doing?

Personally, I wish I remembered what house it came from, I have about 8 rolls of tp and a half a case of soap.

When we die, we will be dead and have no further access to any senses like sight or hearing. You will be as you were before you were born, that is, you wont be alive.

Religious people use this tired expression as a lazy substitute for thinking. So, instead of reasoning through a question and thoughtfully answering it, they will parrot back this simpleton religious cliche "oooh, you will see when you die and you will be sorry".

Its as if they want you to assume that despite their inability to think critically, they neverthless are fully aware of the exact parameters of life and death, and you, despite your plainly superior intellect and ability to express your thoughts, dont.

Do you think these simple little people would have a heart attack if you responded to their simple little religious cliche with "Im persuaded, it was the passionately tone in your voice that won me over, clearly, although you have no ability to explain to me why you know this, you clearly do, and I dont"

I seem to recall that in form the prayers were similar to Luther's morning and evening prayers, but they were written especially for shut-ins.

i am extremely sorry for the last couple questions i posted the other night..i was drunk and P.M.S.-ing. I really don't hate others for what they believe in. I have always said that other people's beliefs are there own, and at least they have faith in something. Faith is all we need no matter what it is in...What can I say? I was just angry at everything..so i'm sorry

I know the bible specifically states that it does, but I really have trouble believing it. It doesn't seem to make sense, because:
A: If god wants to love all his children and be united with them, why would he seperate a group of them out for all eternity?
B: What purpose does it serve? Punishment is meant to teach a lesson: doesn't it amount to sadism to punish people for all eternity? All I can think is that it would be a warning to others.
C: How could someone who loved their neighbor as they loved themself, and especially, loved and prayed for their enemies (the basic ideas of being living a Christian life), ever be truly happy in heaven knowing that somewhere people were suffering an eternity of torture? Wouldn't they have to lose the very qualities that got them into heaven in order to be happy?

I've seen on one thread that Death, for Adam and Eve was not the physical death, but separation from God. That would define Death as a metaphor for separation.

Too, there are many literalists claiming that God created the world in 6 days (24 hour periods)

Then I hear that "And then there was light" used to back up the idea that the Bible is supports science, but this makes the creation story metaphor as the sudden appearance of light does not due justice to the largest explosion in the history of history.

So, which is it metaphor, literal, or some mixture of both, and if such, how does one determine which is which?

how would you react in this situation.
Your daughter brought home a boy that came from a nice christian
family and went to church, but found out that he had a record of rape and molestation.
Then on another night she brought home a boy that was from a
non religious or any other religion home, but he had no record and
was an honor student, buthe called you mom and dad instead of being polite.
What would you do as a parent?
Now what would you do setting religion a side?
Why?
