...following a question I posted here:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApZmOUFP6a9i2Fe0_IIHEU7sy6IX?qid=20061019235215AAVMJ2g

people said I quoted out of context and Muslims are only supposed to oppose Christians and Jews who mock them. (actually, the text is quite ambiguous, imho)

but someone quoted this from the Quran:

[5:57] O you who believe, do not befriend those among the recipients of previous scripture who mock and ridicule your religion, nor shall you befriend the disbelievers. You shall reverence GOD, if you are really believers

...which reads to me that Muslims are not allowed to befriend atheists! Worrying, since I'm an atheist and I have a Muslim coworker who probably thinks I'm Christian!

I already know what a lot of people are going to say. "if you believe, you should want to know more about what God wants."

The bottom line: If I believe in Christ, then I'm going to Heaven, right?

Feel I should know ask the question...Why the hell do we have to point the finger at someone all the time!

Why is it so hard to believe that this world was a 'fluke.' Also, in my opinion, creationism requires a HELL of a lot more faith than believing in the theory of evolution. Evidence for that theory is everywhere, also have you ever seen a picture of what the second creation story in Genesis actually describes...?
THE WORLD DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THAT!

Anyway, my question is...Why is it so hard for people to believe that this world creation was the result of a random sequence of events...Or, an addcident. Why do we have to blame God?

Intelligent Designer. If oxygen levels on earth were higher or lower, animal, human, and plant life couldn't exist. If the earth were closer to the sun it would be too hot to support life; if it were farther away it would be too cold.the inter-dependent complexities of the cell, the human eye, and the eco-system displayed intelligent design that could only come from an Intelligent Designer, such as the Christian concept of God.If you find a watch on the sidewalk, you assume it was made by a watchmaker, that it did not come to be as a product of accidental combination of atoms over time. In the same way, the universe displays even greater evidence of design, so we can logically infer an Intelligent Designer (God) right???

at a community center. I was telling a driver this in a cab and he was like, "WHAT CHURCH DO YOU ATTEND??? Halloween is the devil's work." Personally, my mindset was to have an event that would provide families a safe and fun place to go for Halloween together. I'm not into the whole devil worship, blah, blah, stuff. I think I can have fun on halloween and not be caught up in the hoopla. What do you say?

This has always been a mystery to me. Obviously, Judaism/Christianity are monotheistic - believing strictly in one God. What is this referance in the plural voice all about? Who were these "sons of God?"

The arguement as I see it from the religious right is that the gay lifestyle isn't in line with Biblical principle, so to allow gays to marry is to show an acceptance of gays.

But aren't people like jews, muslims, atheists and agnostics also living a lifestyle that is not consistent with the Bible?

When will Chrsitians admit its not about God or the Bible but their own homophobia?

So why is belief in a supernatural God ok? Remember, you can't have it both ways, either belief in the supernatural is wrong or it's right. Who are you to choose which is correct. If you answer "because the bible says so" your answer will be stricken as being invalid. Rational, coherent responses, pro or con, would be appreciated.

did He experience ALL of the things that regular humans experience? I know he got thirsty and hungry and lonely and stuff, but do you think he got morning wood and things like that? I mean he has to go through everything that we go through right? Doesn't mean that He had to get drunk or nail chicks or whatever because those are decisions.
