at a community center. I was telling a driver this in a cab and he was like, "WHAT CHURCH DO YOU ATTEND??? Halloween is the devil's work." Personally, my mindset was to have an event that would provide families a safe and fun place to go for Halloween together. I'm not into the whole devil worship, blah, blah, stuff. I think I can have fun on halloween and not be caught up in the hoopla. What do you say?

I think that if a guy who says he is a Christian, can happily go wage war based on fabricated evidence, happily squander over 100bn of funds when many schools o infrastructures urgently need money, happily let tens of thousands of civilians get killed, happily let thousands of soldiers get killed, happily destroy a country's infrastructures so that life in it become daily hell,

then by comparison, if you do something that at no points suggests you are "adoring" pagan gods, and are trying to spread fun and happiness around you, your act will be infinitely more Christian.

It's a bit crazy that someone who seems as nice as you, can wonder whether having with kids is Christian, when a mad president can happily state he is Christian, and committ the worst horrors, all for nothing.

It is strange how wives tales and superstition can change the meaning of a date. Christian holidays were dated around the pagan festivals in order to make transition to Christianity more favorable for the "pagan" religions who worshiped nature and spirituality. Because the pagan religions were deemed "evil", the celebration of the dead was considered to be witchcraft, when in fact it is an observance before "All Saints Day" honoring the dead. In Mexico, many people spend Halloween in the graveyards visiting and honoring their dead relatives.

It not satanic to celebrate Halloween. What harm is there in an annual occasion to throw an innocent costume party? Its all in fun. The cabbie can take a hike.

You are correct. I was just thinking of this earlier today. People make evil, but, God can make good. Halloween can be a good time for children and many try to make a big Hoop-La out of it. True, maybe there are those who will practice evil on this night, I have no control over that, it their choice. What some Churches do around me is they just have a Costume Party. Normally, they ask that people not dress as monsters and evil looking things. Many dress as Cinderella, Nice Fairies or Bible Characters etc. It provides a safe environment for Children and a wholesome Social setting, with Goodies and Games. I know many will whine and cry, that OK, cry! I really not care. I love people, try to help those I can, AND Jesus did not give me the authority to Judge..........yet!

What hoopla?? Halloween has nothing to do with devil worship. Furthermore..there is no devil..he is a myth..just like the easter bunny. In all my years, I have never heard of such rubbish.

I think it sounds like fun and nothing wrong with it at all. Our church is having a costume party for the our kids, of course with restrictions on showing to much and that kind of thing, but still better then to be our running around doing only God knows what

Oh, I love costume parties and contests. I have won awards for clever costumes in the past. I use humorous ones, though, which are rarely connected to Halloween ghouls. You get more laughs that way. Even as missionaries we dressed up as Biblical characters. You could de-emphasize the Halloween aspect somewhat for those who are overly sensitive by advertising prizes for different categories which are open to interpretation - most creative, most historical, most Biblical, most European, most (whatever). Have fun. The people who come will have fun. I think the people who are overly critical are stuck in a left-brain mode of thinking.

Who do you serve? God or the enemy (your flesh)? There is no gray area. What you are doing is condoning a pagan event by just slapping the word "Christian" on it. This is an example of modern christian relativism. Instead of standing fully on what God's Word says people are utilizing their own subjective thought and experience to over ride Gods Word.

Now does it say Thou shall not celebrate Halloween? No it does not, but there is case after case of God telling us not to be mixed up in pagan rituals and religions.

So how far does one go in celebrating paganism and allowing it to infiltrate our churches? Why not have Christian winter solstice and dance around in our birthday suits? Since Christ made water into wine why didn't we have Christian drunken parties much like the Romans did? We have Christian Yoga which brings in an eastern practice. What other things are we willing to do, to appease the flesh all in the name of being "Christian?"

So again, who do you serve? God or the flesh?

I say forget what one fanatical cabbie has to say and throw a Halloween party that everyone can enjoy. Safety is important but don't neglect the fun.
