by this I mean in order to understand the way of life better, because the english books and papers dont give you the full story of what islam is all about, but the direct source, the Quran, gives you that. Would you put time in learning about islam by actually going to learn arabic and reading the Quraan in its original language? especially if you are already curious about it, and don't want to take from second hand sources, or even from the tv, the newspapers and the general media? Would you hide the fact from other people that you are reading the Quran just because you want to see for yourself what it says and means; because others may think you are trying to convert? Im interested in this answer asap because mil is reading in secret, have no idea WHY???

Why would he have a son for the sole purpose of dying for our sins? To be omnipotent is to be all-powerful, which means that he could've done ANYTHING to solve that pesky little problem, so why did he choose the sacrifice of a human being? Is it that he's not really omnipotent, or is it just that he's bloodthirsty and sadistic?

Lsat night I composed a folk-style arrangement of Psalm 23 (The Lord is my Shepherd etc). It is a cheerful bouncy tune and has a 'fa la la' type refrain. I didn't significantly depart from the traditional wording. It is a great song to sing, but this morning I wonder if I have been irreverent and if people would find it offensive?

If he exists, then why does he not show himself? Why do we need to believe, when the men that tell us about God are themselves untrustworthy?

I am a Christian whos husband left and divorced her. My beliefs have ALWAYS been that scripture says that God allowed divorce because our hearts were all messed up but it was never suppose to be that way. Secondly, I have found that my heart has fallen out of love for my ex husband and I would love nothing more then to be released from him however, I TRUELY believe, in the depths of my spirit that God has NOT said this is ok. Now I am feeling some strong feelings for a guy at my church who I hang out with a bit, but who only sees me as a friend. But I STILL don't feel like I have been released from my ex.. What would you do in my case? Aside from pray because I am already doing that... Can you also pray for me too?

At a larger level, if Jesus were God, he could have performed so many real miracles. He could have, for example, eliminated smallpox and a host of other diseases that science is busy eliminating today. Jesus could have given the people of Israel the knowledge that they would need to start a technological society and raise themselves above the primitive living conditions of the day. Jesus could have taught the Israelites about metallurgy, chemistry, biology, physics, manufacturing, mathematics, medicine, engineering, etc., etc., etc. He could have also taught them how to responsibly use these technologies to solve the problems of pollution and habitat destruction that so often accompany them today.

If this happened lately, EVERYBODY would have noticed and been interested.

Do you agree that miracles happen everyday, such as something as big as parting seas? Or are they just blatant miniscule ocurrences as a result of something other than god, that people try to twist into being god work?

This is an extension of Spookshow's question.

Think about all the problems that Jesus could have solved. At the very least, Jesus could have transcribed passages into the Bible that would have ended sexism, racism and slavery forever.

As the simplest example, think of all of the suffering that slavery has caused. Millions upon millions of people have suffered through the bondage and the remarkable brutality of slavery because Jesus and his Bible fully support it. If Jesus had simply made a clear statement -- "Slavery is forbidden, free all the slaves" -- he could have prevented all of that suffering. Yet Jesus did nothing of the sort. Instead, Jesus endorsed slavery.

In the same way, Jesus could have chosen women to be six of his apostles and made several speeches on the topic of women's equality. By doing that, he would have put a huge dent in sexism. Because Jesus did not do that, we still see the effects of Jesus' sexism in our society today.
