Read a history book. Even a Christian history book. It's all there. The dark ages in Latin Europe were ugly and barbaric with almost no literacy throughout its population. Commerce was almost non-existent, education was offered to a few erudite who entered the Church.
Islamic culture was highly advanced and cosmopolitan. They welcomed scholars of all backgrounds, religions and nationalities to study among them. This enabled a small portion of Latin Europeans the chance to be enlightened and was very much responsible for the Renaissance.

The payment they received for their open-mindedness was to have their caliphates dessimated by the Holy Roman empire. The most famous example, of course, is the Inquisition.

I consider myself a Catholic. I believe in God. I pray everyday. I love the Church I go to.
The only problem is, I'm pro-stem cell research and pro-choice. I'm against gay marriage, actually, but I'm pro-gay people. A lot of my friends are gay, and I see nothing wrong with homosexuality.
The extreme Catholics sicken me. I think that they are more disgusting and immoral than someone who worships Satan, to be perfectly honest. I hate people who say that being gay is an "abombination to God". I just tell them that their mom is an abombination to God, as well. I think that abortion is awful, but I believe in a woman's choice to have one. I think that stem-cell research is amazing and promising. I think it's gross that all of the holy rollers that preach against it will be the first in line to get the treatments that are derived from it. Talk about controdicting yourself, right?
Basically, I think that a Catholic who condemns someone for their beliefs is awful.
Am I bad Catholic?

And please, no one attack me, I haven't done any of these things.

All the things that we know of - people, trees, animals, planets, universe are made up of atoms. If so, how can these atoms arranged in a specific way (brain) make us think? Does that mean machines can think too(since they are also made of atom)? Are thoughts originating from matter or is matter a result of thoughts?

126. And when Abraham prayed: My Lord! Make this a region of security

and bestow upon its people fruits, such of
them as believe in Allah and the Last Day, He answered: As for him

who disbelieveth, I shall leave him in contentment
for a while, then I shall compel him to the doom of fire a hapless

journey's end!
127. And when Abraham and Ishmael were raising the foundations of the

House, (Abraham prayed): Our Lord! Accept
from us (this duty). Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Hearer, the Knower.
128. Our Lord! And make us submissive unto Thee and of our seed a

nation submissive unto Thee, and show us our
ways of worship, and relent toward us. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the

Relenting, the Merciful.
129. Our Lord! And raise up in their midst a messenger from among

them who shall recite unto them Thy revelations,
and shall instruct them in the Scripture and in wisdom and shall make

them grow. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Mighty,
Wise.
130. And who forsaketh the religion of Abraham save him who befooleth

himself? Verily We chose him in the world,
and lo! in the Hereafter he is among the righteous.
131. When his Lord said unto him: Surrender! he said: I have

surrendered to the Lord of the Worlds.
132. The same did Abraham enjoin upon his sons, and also Jacob,

(saying): O my sons! Lo! Allah hath chosen for you
the (true) religion; therefore die not save as men who have

surrendered (unto Him).
133. Or were ye present when death came to Jacob, when he said unto

his sons: What will ye worship after me? They
said: We shall worship thy God, the God of thy fathers, Abraham and

Ishmael and Isaac, One God, and unto Him we
have surrendered.
134. Those are a people who have passed away. Theirs is that which

they earned, and yours is that which ye earn. And
ye will not be asked of what they used to do.

What of the span of time between 200a.d. and 1500a.d when Martin Luther introduced his theory on "Saved by Faith" and not repentance. What happened to all the humanity inbetween that?

If they didn't have the right idea about salvation, could they be saved? And if so, would that still hold true today?

I have turned to the Bible and found the greatest gift. But I have a problem. How do I reveal this new found religiousity to my family and friends without turning them away. I know many are 'disapproving' of religious belief or dismiss them altogether.
How can I show my faith and keep my friends and family just the way it is now?

Catholics; lets have none of your denial. Its not been "taken out of context", the quote you always re-regurgitate when you don't like the logical conclusion.
I know you recognize that I speak truth as I asked this question earlier and it was reported! A Catholics natural desire to censor anything that disagrees with them and suppress all alternative views never ceases to amaze me!

This is an answer to one of my questions:

"Its not about the creator so much as believing the bible stories, even the one about Jesus...especially"

So for your replies, please do not refer to Christianity and the Genesis account.

Here is the question, philosophically, many philosophers believe there has to be a First Cause or a Creator. A Creator would have to be the most logical and rational being. His drive for creation would come from passion or love.

People who are truly aligned with believing in a Creator are loving, reasonable, fact-based people. What is wrong with that?

HI I am trying to tell this boy that i do not like him like he likes me and the only way that my mom will let me go out with him is if he is a christian. So someone please tell me if this note is good.

You are a person.
You are a child.
You may not think someone loves you.
You are strong.
You are brave.
But there is one person who will.
You are a child.
You are you.
Always love you and will love you until.
You are a nice guy.
You are a person.
And no one can ever change that.
Your day will come which is very soon.
So when you go home tonight go home and get on you knees and pray please.
He is waiting.
He is wacthing your every move.
He is hearing every word you say.
You are trying to hard to get noticed.
But just be who you really are.
Do not pretend that you are something you are not.
Tonight please go home and follow these three simple rules.
1. Get on your knees and.
2. Bow your head
3.And say: Lord Heavenly Father I know I have done wrong.

Did Muslims apologise when thousands of air passengers were put at risk of death by fellow Muslims?
Did Muslims apologise when over 200 people were killed in Mumbai?
Did Muslims apologise for 9/11? This list can go on and on.
They want apologies for someone quoting history.
They do this in a violent way. Their representatives come on TV and are seen to be so aroused. This proves how violence comes easily to these people.
Throughout history Islam has been spread by the sword.
The only people who deny this are Muslims. Why?
Guilt of the bad deed. This results in further violence.

Do Hindus say anything when pictures of their gods appear on shoes and on underwear? This is a peaceful religion.
Do Hindus say anything when hundreds have throats slit in Kashmir by the Jehadists/Terrorists?

Islam only claims to be peaceful. It is not peaceful in reality.
It is time Islam apologised to the rest of the world for its behaviour over the lat 1500 years.

As Pope Benedict XVI faces criticism from Muslim leaders for remarks made during a speech in Germany, the BBC's religious affairs correspondent, Rahul Tandon, looks at earlier views he expressed during his time as a cardinal.
This is not the first time Pope Benedict has been at the centre of criticism for his views on Islam.

Before becoming Pope, Cardinal Ratzinger, as he was known, was considered a theological conservative.

He appeared to be uncomfortable with Pope John Paul II's attempts to improve dialogue with the Islamic world. His predecessor was the first pontiff to step inside a mosque, during a visit to Syria in 2001.

During his time as a cardinal, Pope Benedict opposed Turkey's bid to join the European Union, saying it belonged to a different cultural sphere, adding that its admission would be a grave error against the tide of history.

And in 1996, he wrote that Islam had difficulty in adapting to modern life.

'New barbarism'

However, since his consecration, Pope Benedict has surprised many with his attempts to improve dialogue with the Muslim world. He is due to visit Turkey in November as part of that process.

But there have been signs of his earlier views.

Last year he accused Muslim leaders in Germany of failing to steer their youth from what he described as the darkness of a new barbarism.

Pope Benedict is under increasing pressure to clarify the remarks he made during his speech at Regensburg University.

For many, that will require a clarification of the relationship he wishes to develop between the Catholic Church and Islam
