What of the span of time between 200a.d. and 1500a.d when Martin Luther introduced his theory on "Saved by Faith" and not repentance. What happened to all the humanity inbetween that?

If they didn't have the right idea about salvation, could they be saved? And if so, would that still hold true today?

Scripture teaches salvation through repentance, water baptism in Jesus Name, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost.

That would be "Saved by Grace and Not By Works." That means you can't earn your way to heaven by doing good works. Your faith in that saving grace and repentance is evidence of your salvation.

repentance and faith are both necessary You may misunderstand ..He wanted the 5 extra sacraments to be dropped by the Catholics and they wouldnt...Protestants have only the 2 commanded by Jesus Holy Baptism and the Lords Supper...Protestants mostly just do the 2 commanded ones now including the Lutherans....Trinity is the most important thing We all agree on that...

Salvation is about a person's response to the work of God in their life. It's not about knowing a 'correct' set of doctrines.

In spite of Catholic domination during those years there has always been a true church in existence. Where do you think the Catholics found 86,000,000 people to slaughter during the inquisition?

i know what you mean. it is very possible that they are saved. i am sure that God gave someone wisdom. it was just martin luther who was willing to stand up to the pope and the church of that day.
