So I was screwing around on Wikipedia, and I came across an article that said:
"Several studies have investigated the relationship between intelligence and the degree of religious belief (excluding humanism), with most showing an inverse correlation between intelligence averages and the "importance of religion" to the testee."

and

"All but four of the forty-three polls listed support the conclusion that native intelligence varies inversely with degree of religious faith; i.e., that, other factors being equal, the more intelligent a person is, the less religious he/she is."

Wondering why you think that might be, I'm open to religious and non-religious answers. (Please note, this is an honest question not an insult)

I'm a former New Yorker living in the South now.

And I've noticed that the people who are most vocal about 9/11, and wear t-shirts, have twin tower stickers on their cars, etc, etc around here are the same people that hate New York with a passion.

anyone else see the irony in people who hate NY the most wrapping themselves in the image of the twin towers?

If they hate NY so much, why the hell do they care?

I'm sorry, but I hate it when people use someone else's tragedy as their own political tool.

Taking the notion that there exists a God or gods (I'm keeping this neutral to specific religions), what would be the one thing you would like to tell God, and what would be the one thing you would like to ask God?

Take Christianity for example: They try to convert people, they have ceremonies such as baptism and bible readings, can you see what I mean? How is Christianity or Islam or Judaism or any other religion different than a cult? What makes it a Religion?

What are some ideas of fighting the battles that are going on with love?

I know one is to pray for our enemy and to show them Love.

Matthew 5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. [44] But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; (KJV)

Are their any other Bible verses that stick out in your minds or any other thougts that we can share.

It is clear that not everyone who attends public school follows Christian beliefs. This is an argument for why Creationism should not be taught in schools (among other things irrelevant to this question). However, there are many Christians (and people of other beliefs) who do not believe in evolution. This is sometimes used as an argument for why evolution should not be taught in schools.

How should a disbelief in evolution by a large number of people factor into whether evolution should be taught in schools? Does the science behind it negate the arguments of non-believers?

I asked where hate comes from, and received numerous responses that it comes from Satan. But how can anyone deny that hate is a part of our nature just as is love? If it came from Satan, then doesn't that mean were made in a combined image of God and Satan? Start making some sense please.

I've been a Christian for 16-17 years(21yrs old) and I just do not have any sexual desires. It stinks. Yeah I have the desire to have sex but I never get aroused. So I tried doing everything to arouse me just to make sure if I'm alright but nothing works. Even if a guy touches me I don't feel anything. Any suggestions?

I know it's bad to be sexually immoral before marriage but I want to solve the problem before I marry so the guy I marry can be satisfied in that area without having to be tempted to sleep with other women or something.

Hi, im a Jewish girl. Im trying to understand the hatred of Jews and Christians in the Muslim world. Please don't answer with how bad Israel is or about the Crusades. I simply want to know if the Muslim holy scripture justifys the destruction of human life. For example, where do Jihadist sucide bombers find their religious justification to do what they do? What religious justification do the Palestinians use to send rockets into Israeli territory? What religious justification did Hizbollah use to rocket Israeli cities with the purpose of murdering civilians? Don't tell me how bad the Israeli's are. They are not Muslim. Or perhaps Islam condones the killing of innocent people? Is that possible

Over and over people keep asking questions directed to atheists how they can explain love without god. Turn about is fair play, so how do YOU explain hate with god? You can't simply deny it's part of our nature, and we all know saying 'free will' does not address this question, nor does 'sin' explain it.

When I asked about "agnostic terrorists" two particular responses caught my eye:

One saying that McVeigh was an agnostic, which apparently isn't true:
Timothy McVeigh professed his present belief in "a God" in a recorded interview with Time Magazine.[2] The Guardian reported that McVeigh wrote a letter claiming to be an agnostic, but no text of such a letter (or tangible proof of its existence) has been published or made public in any medium.[3] McVeigh accepted the Sacrament of Extreme Unction from a priest of the Roman Catholic Church shortly before his death, and he had been visited by a priest during his time in prison but expressed his wish to keep the details of his beliefs private.

And another confusing (for like the 10,000th time on this board agnosticism and atheism).

Are agnostics so feared that people need to engage in false smear campaigns?
