Buddhism is not a religion, but under that name there are many "ways of liberation." There are many forms it takes and each one is a different way to awareness. Respect for all life is a common theme when people talk about their experiences in it, but there is no dogma, or something to believe in. So read a little, if you are interested, to see if one of the ways appeals to your nature. Remember to be discriminating, for you can be just as mislead there as anywhere else. The different forms are for you to use to assist your spiritual quest, not the other way round. good hunting.

Buddhism:
1) Is not based on belief, it is based on self-inquiry of one's mind
to lead one to truth. As Buddha instructed before his death, be
ye lamps unto thyselves".
2) Buddha NEVER claimed to be a god-figure only a person who
rediscovered a path to awaken.
3) Buddhism's concern is not First Cause (wether there is or
there isn't a god) it's main concern is liberation from the
false self or self-centered ego. YOU CAN BELIEVE IN
A HIGHER INTELLIGENCE OR NOT. IT DOES NOT
CONFLICT EITHER WAY.
4) In Buddhist philosophy Actualization is more important
than intellectual understanding. Which means knowing
all he sutras ever written is useless until you understand
beyond words what they mean. In other words,
don't just THINK PEACE, BE PEACE.
5) Practice is what counts, not theory.
6) Buddhist philosophy does not see the world in GOOD or BAD
merely cause and effect to actions that have been
set in MOTION. (Karma)
Here's a Blog I wrote about this for you to cut and paste:

7) The most important thing I can say about Buddhist Philosophy
is that a practioner should THINK FOR YOURSELF AND
QUESTION EVERYTHING.
"The religion of the future will be a cosmic religion. It should transcend personal God and avoid dogma and theology. Covering both the natural and the spiritual, it should be based on a religious sense arising from the experience of all things natural and spiritual as a meaningful unity. Buddhism answers this description. If there is any religion that could cope with modern scientific needs it would be Buddhism."

God gave us freewill and God gave us intelligence as well. You are right to question the Buddhism's teachings. The ultimate decision depends on you alone, people have the right to show you the Right Path or for that matter wrong path. But decision will always come from yourself, and you will be answerable for your decision. You won't be able to blame anybody on the Judgement Day for your own decision. That's why there is a freewill. You might not like to hear if somebody says you will go to Hell, but Hell and Heaven should be the driving force for you to find the Right Religion. Please check the link and consider Islam.

Its not a religion where u just trust then u will be saved.
Its a religion where u have to depends on yourself, no God, no prophet..
It respect evryone and never spread by war, there is no war in Buddhist history.
Just try to learn about it,ok?
One of the Buddhism's teaching that make me very intersted in is "Ehipasiko"..
Its mean u come, learn and proof it,
If u think its good than u can continue..
if u think that its not match with you, u can do anything u want..

I really enjoy the philosophys of Buddhism. I'm not a Buddhist though, so I'll just give you some good links to read up on it. The first one is a link to the Google directory on Buddhism. TONS of stuff for you there. The second is from religious tolerance which is an impartial site.
Good luck on your path!

Technically, Buddhism is not a religion because it does not name God. I am convinced that Buddhists are the closest thing our world has seen to true Christians. That's not said to inflate Christians, but rather to say tha tthe teachings of Jesus have been the best followed by Buddhists. It's an austere and demanding way of life, though. Become one only if you are willing to completely divorce yourself from the things most humans truly value.

Ya, read up on the subject. it isn't good to just jump into a new religion if you don't know much about it... for instance, Wicca believes you should harm no one...or anything...everything has a spirit. Hmmm sounds good, but they also believe in more than one god... and Satanism? One of their "rules" is that you should not harm any child or non-human animal, unless for protection or food... a value most of us hold. but do you believe in the other things they hold sacred? (those were just examples)...anyway good luck with becoming a Buddhist. If you're worried about going to hell just because you become a Buddist, maybe you better stick with Chritianity.

Don't be afraid of anyone telling you that you will go to hell!..!!
But one suggestion...
Read a couple of beginner’s books on any faith you choose, before making final position.
What ever you choose, the creator would love you, since all end-up with the same principles as foundation and all conclude that there is only one Creator and you can call it with any name you wish.
Believe me, I have read sooooo many books and searched various faiths and religions, since I cannot blindly accept anything in life. My search only prove to me that all faiths and religions only promote Love of Creator, Kindness, charity, unconditional love, while prohibit of anger, greed, hatred, and harming others and judging others.
Good Luck on your search....

Good for you as that seems to be the only religion that makes any sense. Its all about enlightenment and requires no god or dogma. To be a true Buddhist, however, you have to be willing to give up most of your worldly goods or "downsize".
