It's usually translated "I am who I am" or "I am He who is", a lot of English for one Hebrew word!

I'm learning the difference between por and para in my Spanish class and i'm not understanding it all that well. I know it seems like it would be easy, but we have to justify why to use either por, or para.

So I was wondering if anyone could give a good explanation as to why you use one or the other..

Is there a language authority, that decides how to write the new characters for the new words? are they based on similar characters for similar words? (i.e. is the new character for Internet related to the character for Computer?) how is the public educated on how to write these new symbols, if they are already out of school?

(unrelated question:) Do characters for verbs share similar characteristics, e.g. number of strokes etc? is it easy to tell the difference between a noun, verb, etc. (would the character for say, applesauce be derived from the character for apple? )

I am a military wife and we are currently stationed in Germany... we will be here untill 2011 and i would love to learn the language so that i can be respectful to thier culture. i also believe it would be great if my daughter could learn it from me as well as she gets older. however, the reason i havent paid for the online classes yet is because i have a two year old that needs lots of my time. i would only have maybe an hour a day free to do any online learning.... so.. my question is this.. has anyone learned german as a second language? how hard is it to pick up? how long does it usually take before you can communicate well based on about an hour a day lessons? i know that it just depends on me and i usually pick things up quickly... any tips for suggestions to help me out? or any websites that i can learn from for free? thanks to all of you

This following question applies to any language (though it is obviously written in English).

In this day and age of "Spell Check", et al, has language proficiency lost it's relevance?

Is there any test I can take that will prove I have a reasonable knowledge of German. Which test should I aspire too. Native Speakers and those that learned German as a second languages may answer.

Do not give me useless answers or troll post please, they will be reported.
