I'm learning the difference between por and para in my Spanish class and i'm not understanding it all that well. I know it seems like it would be easy, but we have to justify why to use either por, or para.
So I was wondering if anyone could give a good explanation as to why you use one or the other..

_por- usualy translates as--by--sometimes as -for--
-para--can mean-- for--or--to--.
Por ejemplo; esta carta fue escrito por Juan para Maria.
En 1958 iba por barca a Canada or[Para canada]
El regalo esta para usted. Voy por hua hua[autobus] por todas las calles de la ciudad.

por is when you use "to ...."
para is like "for..."
