For a tattoo, I submitted the following phrase to Applied Language Solutions to be translated: "Wherever the journey leads, may the path home forever shine." They responded with "Quolibet ducit iter, possit dumum iter lucere semper." I've tried to look up the meaning of individual words and can't find all of them. I am desperate to get a second opinion from another latin Scholar...please help. I don't want latin gibberish forever written on my chest.

Just wondering as they were talking about the film Chicken Run on ITV1 last night and referring to the line 'Get the torch' and Americans maybe thinking something like a burning Olympic torch when Mrs Tweedy meant a flashlight. Can it be confusing if we speak Cockney rhyming slang or come out with a stream of exclusively English words. By the way, with George Bush's middle name being Walker, maybe in the last years of his reign of terror, it's time to start using the English word 'wanker' (a masturbator, a person of dubious morals or a person of dubious social skills, an idiot - this word is not allowed to be used on TV before the 9pm watershed).

I found this in a rather old German book (Copyright 1944). It's a sticker type thing. What would this be used on?

Sorry about the horrible quality picture.

Thank you!

Is it just me, or does it seem as if kids/teens are getting (excuse my choice or wording) skankier, sluttier, and whoreish by the second?! I've seen 10 year olds wearing a cakeload of makeup and strutting their undeveloped bodies around in their mini skirts and tube tops. What do you think may have caused this ? (media, etc)

Here's my problem: not one of my American friends is able to pronounce my German first name properly and I've seen as many different spellings of it as I have friends.
My Dutch friend Michiel had the same problem, just called himself Mick and that worked.
So I've got to find a nickname that is easily understandable and pronouncable for a native speaker of English. And it should also be somewhat close to my German name which is Sönke (pronounced something like: ZOIN-kah).
All my friends came up with was Sonny which I didn't really like.
Any better ideas?

I went to a French restaurant with my boyfriend. After we toasted with red wine, suddenly the lights went off. We found in the darkness a candlelit grand piano, and a pianist started play wonderful music. The owner of the restaurant set this romantic surprise. How do you call this exquisite presentation in English?

I'm a Security Guard. One day we had a visit from a German who had an appointment with someone on the premises. I told him what he had to do,where hw had to go etc....only in German.
He complemented me on my German.
When he went on his way,my Supervisor, who was in the Gatehouse at the time, when nobody else was around, tore me off a strip, saying:"You should speak the language everybody understands!".... I thought this was very unfair of him...Opinions?
