I found this in a rather old German book (Copyright 1944). It's a sticker type thing. What would this be used on?

Caution!
Before uncoupling lower the rear rest

I'd assume it's used on a trailer. Reminds you that you shouldn't forget to lower the rear legs/rests before you unhook it from the car.
From the style of the sticker I'd say, it's much newer than your book. Doesn't look like 1944 more like 2004.
And there is one slight spelling mistake (Stutze instead of Stütze), which is common if you don't have Umlauts on the keyboard. So perhaps the sticker wasn't made in Germany.

Sounds like something from aircraft or automotive repair shop...
