My eldest niece took Spanish in HS and now decided to take Latin in her first year of college. (They dropped this choice in my HS 35 years ago; about the only thing I know is that Latin seems to have some sort of WEIRD obsession with the gender of tables. How DO you determine a table's gender, anyway? Never figured that out in German....)

As a surprise gift from her godmother, do I send her a copy of _Latin for Dummies_, a *very large* bottle of extra-strength headache pills, a big "crying pillow", or a couple bottles of high-proof booze, because she may NEED a good stiff drink now and then?

Suggestions, comments?

I am going for an interview soon..and i will need help to say the following:

I have been studying French since I was small when I lived in Canada.
However, over this past year, because I am not studying French at school anymore, I have lacked speaking practice. Instead, I do more passive reading on French.
So I am not very comfortable speaking in French right now. Perhaps we could try another language, like German?

Thanks!!

I'm also interested in similar words, like profit made from the suffering of others, or from carelessness of consequences, etc. I only want real words or ... at least plausible words, like latin constructs that may not have ever been used but would be understandable to someone familiar with latin.

"Her yes means no, and no is a maybe."

This is an ABBA song lyric, and those of you who speak Nihongo will understand why the Heck it is so tricky to translate.
