Not "ciao", as in hello/goodby. I mean "cio" as is the opera Madame Butterfly, the characters name is "cio cio san"

Yes, absolutely correct.

FYI: any time there is an "e" or an "i" after a "c", it creates the "CH" sound.

As in: ci sono due gatti nella casa (chee soh-noh doo-eh gaht-ti...

if you talk about the italian word "ciò" which means "this", it's pronunced like cho/colate (it has an accent ). in that opera it's pronunced chow chow beacuse it has a japanese origin! sorry for my english....

All those posters are wrong. It's pronounced like "che-oh" and it means "this". Dopo di cio=after this.

if you mean " cio' " (this or that) it is pronounced like "cho" as you stated

SOFT C
In italian, whenever you see a "Ci" think of it as english pronunciation of "ch"

HARD C
Whenever you see "ch" in italian, think of it as the "k" sound
