Holidays - September 2007

My mum is dying of cancer and the doctors say she may not make it till christmas. I was wondering would it be wrong if i brought christmas forward a little. Last christmas we didnt know it might be our last one so i thought we could make it special. It would be as much for her grandkids as anything else . Do you think it would be ok under the circumstances or is it the wrong thing to do?

I have four children - who are all already looking forward to Christmas and writing their lists for Father Christmas - as you can imagine - it can be an expensive event!!
Father Christmas usually brings them a book, some candy, a soft fluffy toy and a toy they have asked for - we usually give them something nice each and a smaller gift each from their siblings - it isn't much - but x 4 really ads up!
Anyone have any really sweet or clever ideas for things kids would love that won't cost so much - or perhaps ideas for others (such as grandma / grandpa / work friends / friends etc) that are cheaper so we can put the extra money towards the kids?

My kids go back to school tomorrow after a nice summer holiday.We just did day trips, but enjoyed all the same.I've got myself back driving after serious illness, so managed to go a few places with them during the day while hubby was in work.I never went anywhere as a kid, it was a treat to play outside all day in the summer hols, that's my fond memories.Kids today don't know how lucky they are.What are your favourite childhood memories of school holidays?

I want to make a pirate costume for holloween and want to know how to make a pegleg and hook like a real pirate might have had. I need as much detail as I can get so they are right.
Some info on modern peglegs would be good too incase the old kind are to hard to make or use.
Has anyoue out there ever done this? If you have I would like to hear about how they worked.
