I want to make a pirate costume for holloween and want to know how to make a pegleg and hook like a real pirate might have had. I need as much detail as I can get so they are right.
Some info on modern peglegs would be good too incase the old kind are to hard to make or use.
Has anyoue out there ever done this? If you have I would like to hear about how they worked.

Those wev wites were interesting but don't tell much about how to make ones. I did learn some things, but am looking for details..
I would like to make these as authentic as I can.

Yes my husband just did this a couple weeks ago for a Pirate Party. (the peg leg)
You can got to Lowes or Home Depot and get a spare table leg (it's round and tapered, has a metal foot on the bottom, but you will be cutting it down to length anyway.)
Then we cut a round out of plywood big enough to fit down in a plastic bucket. The table leg has a bolt already threaded into the top of it, so you drill a hole into the plastic bucket and wood round and screw the table leg into it. Then you need to fold your leg up and have someone measure the distance from the bottom of your knee to the floor (being sure to have whatever boot or shoe you plan on wearing on the other foot so you get the right height. Then cut the leg long enough to fit that length.
Then we used a couple of Ace bandages to wrap his leg and foot taped the bucket/leg onto his leg and put the pirate pants over top. (just be careful not to wrap the leg too tight or it will cut off the circulation and you could lose a foot)
Somewhat hard to walk on, so get a lot of practice in.
Alternatively if you dont want to tie up your leg, or are unable to get it to bend that far up comfortably you could just cut out the back side of the bucket and "kneel" onto it. You will still need to strap or tape it to your leg to get it to stay on.
