I’ve heard of a few cases where people in my town are signing up for free Thanksgiving meals, certainly are not poor & don’t need them. One I know for a fact- plans to go out tonight, drink & party. His “wake up call” tomorrow is the folks delivering the Thanksgiving dinner at 12:00 noon knocking on his door. He states he will then eat the meal and go back to bed. Mind you, he is not poor and has plenty of places to eat dinner with his family and friends. What kind of behavior is this?

...other holidays? Do you skip them or, if you do celebrate them, for example going to parties or relatives' houses, how many of you only do it because you feel obligated or "guilt-tripped" into it by people? Also, which holiday seems the most "obligatory" and why? Please, I only want answers from people who feel this way, not lectures on why the holidays are so great, etc., from people who LIKE them (which is fine, but there are other questions here about that).

The guy I am seeing loves motorbikes, he has 2 so I am thinking something bike related would make a great present. We've only been seeing each other a few months but I wanted to get him something he'd really like. Thanks

I need to bring brussel sprouts to a Thanksgiving dinner I am going to. (Everybody is bringing a different side dish.) There will be 6 adults and 6 kids (only 1 or 2 of the kids would eat that vegetable) and it is the favorite veg for 2 or 3 of the adults. I am really afraid I am not bringing enough but I also don't want to way overdo it. How many do you think I need? Should I count them out to measure?

I live in an upper scale town that does not particularly have “poor” people. However, several businesses in town donate hundreds (possibly in the thousand rage) of Thanksgiving “totes” – 4 x4 plastic bins with Thanksgiving food that would feed a family for over two weeks. From my viewpoint, these baskets should be given to a city that has true poverty and needs them. It disgusts me each year these “do gooders” give to people that don’t need it and pat themselves on the back. So, out of pure spite I signed up & am receiving one of these ridiculously filled baskets. Many people are now calling me a freeloading moocher & a disturbed person. I feel I’m just proving a point. In this upper scale town, I’m certainly in the class you would consider “poor”. Am I wrong?

We are having a large gathering (50+) people for a pot-luck Thanksgiving. There are several small children whose plates will need to be prepared for them, making a buffet-style impractical for most guests...Any suggestions on how to serve the food?

We don't have time to be a family anymore, we are rushed into everything. Do you remember when store use to be closed on Sundays, and all Holidays. When people had time for family, and family dinners together. Wouldnt it be nice if stores were closed again on Holidays, and Sundays. Maybe some families could get some family values back. Everything seems to be so rushed, last weekend our town had there Christmas parade, a week before Thanksgiving, is that not crazy?
