...other holidays? Do you skip them or, if you do celebrate them, for example going to parties or relatives' houses, how many of you only do it because you feel obligated or "guilt-tripped" into it by people? Also, which holiday seems the most "obligatory" and why? Please, I only want answers from people who feel this way, not lectures on why the holidays are so great, etc., from people who LIKE them (which is fine, but there are other questions here about that).

I SPECIFICALLY ASKED FOR NO "PRO-HOLIDAY" LECTURES! I want to hear ONLY from people who aren't into them!

Also, I gave up being "guilt-tripped" years ago and am happier for it. But I DO see many people who still go to relatives' houses, etc., moaning & groaning all the way. I want to know why!

If you think the holidays are great, that's okay...just post somewhere else, PLEASE!

to "cat": I'm so sorry to hear about your terrible loss! You must be strong to go on...Maybe every year, you could have a memorial/remembrance observance for your lost loved ones? Peace!

Does ANYBODY READ THE QUESTIONS?

Why do you people who like the holidays keep answering this? It's almost harassment! I ONLY want to hear from people who DON'T Like them. If you like them, POST ELSEWHERE, PLEASE!

I feel the same way. I have had alot of very rough times. My father died in 1993 just 5 days before thanksgiving, My mother died around the same time 2 years later. I havent seen or heard from my so called family since that time ( I guess we were never really close) Last year a friend invited me over for thanksgiving because she knew I was alone. At first I didnt want to go but than I figrued what the heck I will give Thanksgiving a shot this year so I went. Bad mistake. I came home that night to find my home was burned down along with everything I worked so hard for all these years and my two children, my babies (a dog and cat) died as well. So that just re established my faith or happiness in any holiday wether it be christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, whatever. I just tune out all the darn christmas music and decorations from my head. I ignore anything having to do with a holiday. It is too painful for me. I treat the day like any other day of the year which I guess saves me alot of money because I dont have to go all out and fix fancy dinners, dont have to shop for gifts, decorations and all that garbage or pretend that you give half a rats butt about people buying them gifts when in reality you dont care at all you are just doing this out of obligation.

I am not religious... I do not do holidays. My thought is why should I go visit you on a holiday to have a big meal. I find it to be a waste. My husband and I ( and children) do our own thing. We celebrate once a week. We have a big meal that we all partake in. For no reason. We don't go to family members houses because they only want to get together for the holidays. We go when its not Holiday Season! Sounds kind of silly but that's the way we do it. My thoughts on X-mas, again its not a religious reason... we do gifts all year round so we don't do presents on the 25th. If there is an expensive item that we need as a family we will get it around x-mas time but when we get it is when we use it! We don't wait for a certain day. OK in a nut shell I hate holidays!

often, we've the two a turkey and a ham. constantly have stuffing. on occasion, we are going to stuff it contained in the turkey. selfmade potato salad and mac & cheese (those products constantly runs out till now the rest). :) the two eco-friendly beans & eco-friendly peas. Mashed potatoes. Cranberry sauce. Yams. i'm specific i'm going to be reminded of four or 5 different dishes the following day. a minimum of three categories of pie. Pecan, pumpkin, and candy potato are required. somebody oftentimes delivers a fruit pie decision. sufficient tea & bottled water to feed a busload of people. i might prefer to point out that a brilliant sort of people collect for our Thanksgiving dinner and a brilliant sort of of the folk in my family members are "super" those with very hearty appetites (and a brilliant sort of of those human beings have a minimum of two youngsters). Thanksgiving is analogous to a family members reunion for me. all of us is extraordinarily plenty unfold out around the rustic and that i'm able to basically have sufficient money to pass to maximum of people in the time of the year. Oh, and a happy Thanksgiving to you too.

I'm with you 100%. I skip out on them whenever I can. I do the bare minimum. If I were king of the world, I'd ban holidays entirely.

Support the war on Christmas!

i like the holidays themselves, but all the "junk" that goes with it i could do without. we all have family members that are hard to be around (usually inlaws) plus all the stress of the cooking, gift buying, and the fake smile that you have to paste on your face. that is the part i'd like to skip.
