I was thinking of getting one for my youngest brother (15) but i'm not sure if it is appropriate for his age. What do you think? why?

Well, you know him better than any of us. Do YOU think he is mature enough to use one properly? If not, then no, don't get it. The knife isn't the problem, it is the person using it.

I couldn't see a 6 year old with a knife. I would wait until the person is 13, maybe even 12, but not 6.

Actually, I think that is a marvelous idea. At 15 it would be not just cool but a handy thing to carry around in his pocket. My husband has one that we all use and if he doesn't have it on him when we are out somewhere, he gets booed, hissed, etc. They come in so handy for things you don't even think about until you're away from home. We should probably just all carry our own instead of fussing at dad. I think 15 is an appropriate age, he should not take it to school though. Just remind him of that when you give it to him, because he'll get in A LOT of trouble for having it there.

If he's a camper or has a use for a knife, then it would be a thoughtful gift.

No, he won't be able to do much damage with a knife. I would opt for the gun.

My grandmother says giving knives as gifts is really bad luck.

But if your brother will like it and use it (i.e. if he's a boyscout), go for it.
