my daughters boyfriend will be visiting us for the first time tomorrow
he is a 17 year old wheel chair bound young man
we are very excited at meeting him , but I have some worries ( as does he )
we live in a first floor flat with stairs and he has been putting off the visit for quite some time now
I thought perhaps that he couldnt manage the stairs , but he admitted tonight to it being embarressment because he will have to ( in his words ) bum it up the stairs
I dont want him to be embarressed , I want him to feel at ease with us....
but how can I help him without patronising him or making him feel uncomfortable
do I offer to help him ?
I dont want to see him struggle with the stairs ... but I know he is stubborn also
and my home isnt wheelchair friendly ... any tips on what to rearrange or look out for ?
I just want him to enjoy being here and feel accepted into the family
thank you in advance xx

I run a small company the develops software for the blind. Some time ago we were contacted by someone who was teaching a student with some very specific mobility problems. Well, we decided to fashion a solution for the student and did not charge for it. We did not hear from the teacher again - no thank you or anything - until recently when she contacted us again to request more changes. As we are more concerned about the students needs than the teacher's lack of appreciation, we did the changes again and sent the software out. Again, free of charge. The teacher has not contacted us to thank or give any appreciation.

We did this for the student, who we do not know and will never meet. But isn't it a bit rubbish that the teacher doesn't have the consideration to thank us for the efforts?

I have found scammers trying for Air line tickets and others wanting free holidays.
So beware! They did not get me.

To live on in the states do they cut off benifits 30 days after you leave country. They dont give you enough to live on but expect you to stay there and starve to death instead of finding a place where the money is enough to live on.....

My son has been attending the Caledonian Thistle football matches for the last 4 years, with his mates. He has now been told because he uses a Wheelchair or walking aid, he must attend with an able bodied adult over the age of 18. My son is independant, smart, intelligent, polite and sociable Young Man, who before this has never let his disability get in his way of achieving anything. He can go swimming, shopping to th cinema etc.... by himself, without any problems. He has been made to feel inferior to his peers.

I see some repeat questions they might be worded differently
but they follow the same theme.
Is it someone disablity
age
feeling of depression
been picked on
etc

If you answer in a positive manner it has not helped some users feeling any better.

What do you think about it all

I am currently on Social Security....Disability. I know that I am allowed to make up to $900 a month and still receive benefits but......I have a chance to work 10 hours a week....not substantial activity and no where near the $900 a month limit. I would like people who are currently on SSDI and working to let me know if this at ANY way will make SS investigate me and forfeit my benefits? I am not even sure I can do the job but would like to try. I know SS encourages people to work....but do not want to chance losing my benefits. I need reassurance from people who have done this with no problem.....or any SSDI experts.....thank you in advance.
