Usually, when someone says something nasty about (presumably all) Americans, I say, "I understand. He/she has a point."

But recently, everywhere I go someone (sometimes another American) is insulting us. Sometimes really aggressively. Which, I still understand--but it kinda' worrisome....

I know I do it too, though. I sometimes say to my Asian friends, "You're lucky you didn't have to suffer American high school." And I catch myself admitting, "American are violent, arrogant, bossy, overconsumerist, and shallow. Plus, they cater to the rich and have a vulgar sense of humor." But I didn't mean all of us! ~_~

Most the people I surround myself with are pretty good world citizens. Some of them smoke (overconsumerist) etc., but they are not ego-maniacs and have healthy admiration of other cultures. We don't impose our lifestyle on others. We're against the war, for the environment, and we don't buy much. So...knowing what ya' know, would ya' hate on us?

I appreciate good sounds and lyrics, that's why I love rock. Some people at my school treat me like I'm some freak because I do. Half of the time it suprises the hell out of them that we actually have more in common than they may have intitially have thought. It's annoying and tiresome to try and explain to people that my skin color is just pigmentation, not some kind of blue print for the person I am.
Have you ever felt like people can't just get over physical attributes to just see you?

I have gotten this question my whole life! My voice and the way I talk has been a point of ridicule for me my whole life. Other blacks would point out I sounded like poindexter-I hated that!

Why is it when you use the correct grammar and you don't speak with slang it's talking as if you are white? There is no such thing is there?

Even grown folks would ask "What's wrong with your voice?" "You didn't grow up around blacks?" Then they would ask my grandmother "Why does she talk like she's white?"

What's that supposed to mean? I grew up around people!

I would appreciate feedback. Are there others out there that have suffered ridicule and embarassment because you talk differently?

This is not a racist question but for those that find this offensive-then just don't answer. This is a legitimate question based off of legitimate experiences.

I don't understand why it is so hard for people to understand who we are. It bothers me when people ask why we can't except that we are black. That's like saying why do people consider themselves pacific islanders and not just say that they are asian. I mean give me a break. What is African American; A culture, a language, a way of cooking. We as creoles have all of these things. We have a creole way of cooking, dancing, speaking, religion (most creoles are catholic). I think technically creoles would be considered Latinos before black. Futhermore, I do not know anyone person that is "african-American" or "euro-American" in my family unless they have married into the family. My parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents were all Creole.

I'm a brilliant, properly raised half black girl, # 7 of my grad class. My dad ( black man) is a highly ranked retired member of the US Air Force and now an Inspector of Raytheon Co. doing airplane engineering. My question is why the hell everyone has stereotypes that black men produce babies and leave their baby mamas. My father is still with my mother. So what makes someone think that all black people are pathetic or on welfare, cause lots of people (especially white people), just throw stereotypes right and left at blacks. There are white, mexican and asians who desert their children, go through abuse and all that negative stuff that is assumed to go on in only black communities. more than 70% of school shootings are done by white people. more than 80% of suicides are done by white people. so why is everything thrown on blacks?! not to mention that black guys get the short end of the stick in the judicial system. why are people turning a blind eye at the 'other' races' flaws?

OK in high school my friend told me he was born to run fast because his dad was able to run fast. He also said Japanese people are very fast runners because he is one. He is a good runner but he is not the best compared to non Japanese people.

In one race he fainted... Also he trains a lot too, yet he is unable to beat someone who didn't train for months... He got pissed when that guy beat him and that guy always does beat him. The fastest runners on our team are these White, Chinese and Indian guys. SO was he born to run fast?
