When was is founded and by whom?
How does this charity use the money donated to it?

I have never participated in a charity walk. I am interested in doing so to raise money for ALS but the dollar amounts that have to be raised are very intimidating. For those of you who've done it, how did you manage to raise the money? How much effort did you have to put in and would you do it again? Any tips for a newbie?

I would like to start raising money for charity. Specifically, I would like to raise money for a good charity that funds research into treatments/cures for ALS. A couple questions:

1. I have never raised money for charity before, so I am very intimidated to do a walk where I am expect to raise several thousands of dollars (although maybe those of you who have can tell me how you did it).

What are other ways I can get involved and raise money without the pressure of such a high dollar amount? For example, I thought of asking for donations in lieu of Christmas presents or donating a percentage of my part-time income towards the charity. Other ideas??

2. Charities really vary in how good they are. How can I find the charity that will put the money towards the best use?

It would have to be regulated, and monitored only when necessary, by Authorities, but do you think this would be advantageous?

I got a call by an agency saying that I was recommended by an old friend, whom I use to volunteer with to be a mentor in my area. I am very suspicious as the friend who recommended me...I haven't talked to in almost a year, I looked up the program, but am still suspicious as they want to meet me in a local coffee shop....wtf...this is very strange to me...

I can barely run my own life let alone others....they asked that I meet with them next week....I am trained in my current job to spot criminals when I talk to them...and all my instincts tell me I shouldn't go empty handed....yet I love to help people....should I go?

Trying to come up with some vounteer ideas for youth ages 8-14. Generally to volunteer for Habitat, you have to be at least 15 for liability reasons. Youth under 15 cannot be on a building site. There are several youth groups and youth organizations that are interested in being involved, so any ideas on how they can help would be appreciated.

I've been raising money through Ebay to help send my boyfriend's unit, who is currently deployed in Iraq, some Christmas goodies. I've been doing well so far, but I thought a little help could make it a whole lot more easy, and a whole lot more special! So if you would like to contribute, ANYTHING is welcomed and EXTREMLY appreciated! Everyone who donates, even if it's a quarter or twinkie, will be added to the list of contributors for their Christmas package, and anyone you decides to give a little is also encouraged to write a letter- or short note- to be added to each bag. If you have any questions, thoughts, concerns, or ideas.. please let me know! Thank you, and Happy Holidays! Maureen Brown

Mony donations can be made via paypal to the email address marine_christmas_donations@yahoo.com. Or if you wish to mail in a money donation or treat, you can also ask and I will gladly give you my mailing address. Thank you again! and God Bless :)

...but as of late, I've gotten VERY bored with life. I have begun thinking that volunteering in some capacity, would aleviate that a bit. HOWEVER!, ( and this is where I start looking bad ) I want to get something out of it!...something tangible... Where are all the SINGLE WOMEN volunteering? 'Cause that's where I want to volunteer! I know that the act itself is supposed to be enough reward...but whatever! all the women I meet at work are married, and all the women I meet at the bar...well, thier just not my type. So, any suggestions?
