Say I wanted to set up a venture that would collect and distribute funds to individuals or families who needed extra help in times of need. Are there tax implications for these types of donations (maybe a certain threshold whereby donations become taxable)? Is this legal? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to throw a little concert series in different neighborhoods in chicago, with all money made I will donate 100% of the proceeds to the youth home in that area. Since I am donating all the money that means i will spend money witth out gaining. I dont have a problem with that but, I am afraid i will not have enough money. This is the first time I ever did anything like this and realy dont know how to go about asking local stores etc. to sponsor me. Does anyone have any tips or help they can give me?

I once did volunteer work for the homeless, it was very sad to see all those people with such difficult life circumstances, but felt really good to help out by helping feed them some proper well balanced meals.
That was a long time ago when I volunteered but find myself thinking about volunteering for the adult home down the street. anyway, what's been ur favorite type of volunteer work--the most fulfilling that is? what was ur experience please? thank u

We are a non-profit with the mission "to help others with substance abuse or addiction, through prevention and education, and to encourage families to manage the direction of their lives." We have youth AODA prevention and education programs, parenting AODA classes, a group foster home, impaired driver programs, etc. We are looking for a name that does not have alcohol or drugs in the title since it often sounds quite negative (people think we only serve "drunks and drug addicts"- when actually we serve the whole family plus people suffering from AODA issues). Any ideas? Thanks!!

As a development director I KNOW why we do this (and at a minumum of 7x!!), but I am having to justify to a group if residents at our CCRC why I purchases a large (10' x 6') BEAUTIFUL donor recodniton display!! Nothing was ever done to thank past/present donors until a year ago----
