Clay Aiken has jumped on the wagon of helping people around the world. My question is this: SHOULDNT WE BE WORRIED ABOUT HELPING THE KIDS HERE IN THE USA FIRST? We have people that are still devistated from Katrina, we have homeless, we have poverty, we have poor schools. You do not have to go far to help kids out.

u know there r cases when i cant stand them suffering and try to buy them shoe-ploishing instruments or give them small stall jobs! i know it's again illegal (child labour in case of children beggars).... but later, i just wait to realise that they have sold those things or stolen money from those places! old habits die hard! we shud stop generating that habit!!!

My son is a boy scout (10 years old) his troop leader has asked them (approx 13-15 of them) all to come up with some ideas on how to raise money for a minibus for indian school children.

we've got a few ideas like the original boy scout task of "bob-a-job" (where your rewarded cash for small jobs in your local neighbourhood) and a sponsored bike ride etc,

but can anybody out there think of anything a little bit more imaginitave?

we are based in a city but do have transport to get to rural areas althought this costs and we want our outlay to be minimal.

if you need more info please let me know in your answer and i'll add it to additional information.

thanks everyone

While you're thinking about that think about the fact that 250,000 people have been killed in Sudan over a genocide which the government is doing NOTHING about.

Women cannot leave the camps because they'll get raped and men cannot leave because they'll get killed. Imagine what that feels like!

Dig deep. This is something worth fighting for.

My father got hurt at work & has had several surgeries but the injuries keep coming back - The place he has worked for (for almost 30 years) UPS, has decided they don't want to help him anymore & so my parents are currently fighting UPS but for now they have one income - my mom works as a Teachers aide Make $10 an hour. My brother is a fresh in hs & my sister is a junior. They don't have insurance - which is horrible because my sister has type 1 diabetes. & they have just started going to food pantries for help. I don't live with them so that helps out the bills a bit more, but they have been paying for everything witha credit card - & are 12 grand in debt right now. :(
Is there anything I can do to help them?

These computers have been donated by church members and others, the problem is I cannot seem to tap into anywhere to give theseto single moms, dads, or even college students who maybe cannot afford the luxury of what is becoming a basic tool to be used for homework, job seaches etc.. all have basic office, systems, internet ready. See my sitewww.velveteencomputers.com for info.
Thanks

does anyone know where i could request assistance for a needy couple that are always doing awesome things for other people? these two currently have a homeless man that was living under the freeway bridge staying with them and they can't even afford the bills for just the 2 of them. they said that they couldn't leave a human out in the cold while they considered it too cold outdoors for the dog. both have jobs and work everyday, but the husband had been laid off from a job he'd been at 13 yrs. she relies on a commission for a paycheck and sales are poor. i just wanted to give them some help to show them they're appreciated for all they do.

Right now it is between El Salvador/Honduras and working on a clinic with Dr. Patch Adams and a team. I hear it's rough conditions there and it's a lot of hard work.
The other is to San Salvador to build a community center and do some outreach work.

Of those choices, where would you go/not go, and why? Has anyone been to these regions?

I'm part of a team for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life walk. Last year we raised $10,000 mostly through corporate sponsors, but haven't been able to have much luck in that area anymore. We are severely lacking. Any other great fundraising ideas?
