Clay Aiken has jumped on the wagon of helping people around the world. My question is this: SHOULDNT WE BE WORRIED ABOUT HELPING THE KIDS HERE IN THE USA FIRST? We have people that are still devistated from Katrina, we have homeless, we have poverty, we have poor schools. You do not have to go far to help kids out.

I was hoping to draw out an "OFICIAL" celeb out on this one so we could have their take on it.

AMEN! i feel exactly the same way. people are so busy trying to help kids and families every where but here. by all means help those people out too but don't overlook the homeless family you walked past to get into your limo. it's amazing how we have billions of dollars to put into a war but don't have two nickles to rub together to take care of the people in need here. if we spent half of what we spent on war here and half to help out needy kids in other countries, then we really wouldn't have to worry about very much. hell if they put a pinch of what they've spent in war into helping victims of katrina new orleans would be on it's way to being rebuilt and cleaned up. the government turned their heads when there were people on roof tops and it's hasn't changed since. you would think as much as they screwed up they'd atleast send aide to help rebuild the cities. but reality is it's harder and harder to get help for those who really need it. here and in other countries.

You are right about helping out here in the USA, but you know some movie stars would rather go to another country, because they have ask poor kid what would they want the most here in the United State. The responds was material things like ipod, video games, etc., and the kids in other country would rather have food or clothes, education, so you see this country has poor, but not poor enough to want food, education as in other country. They know what is like too be truly hungry. This country is very spoil and greedy. Go to one of the churches at Thanksgiving and see how some people don't eat everything and lot of the food gets throw out, I've seen it and it makes me sad, doesn't mean I still won't help those in need because I will, but I also understand why the stars do what they do.

Absolutely. I love seeing the press coverage all the celebs (Brangelina, Madonna, Clay, etc.) get when they go to these other countries and help. Now the politicians are jumping on the New Orleans bandwagon to gain votes. It shouldnt be about votes. It should be about taking care of OUR country and OUR people and children. Diane Sawyer did a great expose recently on "poverty in our backyard" and how a bright ambitious schoolgirl loses all motivation as her destitute life takes over. Its all over from coast to coast. Even LA county has horrible schools and violence problems. My cousin is a teacher there. That is right in Hollywoods backyard. Its too easy to still believe that the USA is above all these problems.

I TOTALLY agree with you. We should be more concerned with helping OUR people first then others second. Katrina caused mass devastation and alot of people are still without homes so we need to get them back in homes etc before going to other countrys etc and helping them out. We need to put ourselves first

Helping Americans definitely is the way to go and you would be able to do so easily. Buy canned goods and give at a crisis center. Give your child's small clothes to a battered women's group. Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Pay for another child to be able to eat regularly at school. Teach someone to read.
I'd much rather help someone who in turn might help me if I fall into hard times. I'd much rather help someone better themselves that in turn will better my community. I'd rather do something that creates a safer environment for my daughter to be able to go out and not get mugged.

I agree but it make better press the other way. Katrina has already been in the lime light and is about done as far as the media goes. Those who wish to really shine themselves in front of the reporters must do it in a way to attract attention.

Most people (celebs) go to other countries because they look at the U.S. problems with blinders on. Take care of your own first is what I say!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! I was JUST going to post something like this! I feel as though since this is our country we should be helping our people first. There are SO many kids that go hungry and starve to death in the US! I bet most people dont know that in ORLANDO, FL, the city with all those amusement parks and tourists and beaches, has one of the highest rates of children going hungry? Its crazy and people esp celebrities really need to get their facts straight! Its good to know I wasnt the only one who thought like this.

i totally agree although for mothers who dont take care of thier own children and keep producing i say tie thier tubes but i mean i think we should give money to help out other countries but only after our own is helped out we should take care of our own first and foremost then help others i mean we have poverty and crime in our own country!
