Right now it is between El Salvador/Honduras and working on a clinic with Dr. Patch Adams and a team. I hear it's rough conditions there and it's a lot of hard work.
The other is to San Salvador to build a community center and do some outreach work.

Of those choices, where would you go/not go, and why? Has anyone been to these regions?

This isn't mission work based through a church. As in outreach, we will be teaching them how to cook, take care of themselves, and spending time learning about their culture. On these trips we gather supplies in our community (i.e, blankets, health products, etc.) and bring them to the mission. Again, this is not through a church, I am a religious person (not a religious nut) but I do things because I want to help, not because I think it will get me into heaven.

I have done week-long mission trips once a year for the last three years in Mexico, and have had relatively similar experiences to your two options, because one was dealing with physical service where you can actually see what your accomplishments and the other was working directly with the people who are in need. While I enjoyed seeing before me the fruits of our labors in the two houses we had built, I left feeling so much more fulfilled after spending a week with children because I was able to connect with the people I was helping. Not only are you helping them, but you are building your world vision. You leave the experience a completely changed person.

Conclusion: I think you should definitely work with Patch Adams! That sounds like the most incredible golden opportunity, and personally I wouldn't miss it for the world.

Stay home and work with Dr. Patch. We need the help here. Besides - outreach? Religious outreach or something else that would actually be helpful and not destroy what's left of their culture?

People in those countries are Christians. Why don't you find something to do that factually ocuses on helping them instead of harassing them because they don't go to the same church you do?
