I was in boy scouts, and for my service project, I conducted a donation drive for a hospice organization. Community Hospice organizations sometimes partially fund through thrift stores. You'll need a few volunteers to help you. For mine, We selected an area of town and distributed 1000 fliers on one weekend.(1000 houses is a big undertaking...you might start with something smaller) Two weeks later, we had volunteers go around and retrieve all the bags of donations fromthe doorsteps.

We had about a 40% donation turnaround. By the time the 5th vanload of goods was delivered to the thrift store, they started getting nervous, because they were running out of room. Took about 35 volunteers overall, and a few had vehicles.

Good Luck to you!

well its hard to give you an accurate answer to this without knowing more about you. What do you LIKE to do? Do you like kids, are you comfortable around old people or sick people? Do you like animals? I know that the animal shelters are usually always looking for help taking care of the pets. Or if you like kids maybe you can become a "big sister" mentor. Or become a candy striper at a hospital, or read to children in the pediatrics ward.... THERE are sooo many opportunities out there and its really great to hear that you are so willing to help!

Let us know what you like and what type of area you're located in so that we can give you even better answers.

The best thing you can do at your own level is that go to a critical ill patient and say a few good encouraging words, in hospital, or neighbour hood.
Seeing this good work may be other people will join you.
have this session every day or whenever you get time. You will find real spitual peace.

I suggest that you work through your local volunteer center. They provide one-time, short-term, and long term community service opportunities that meet real community needs and match your interests. I work with one of the Hands On Network affiliates:

Volunteer Centers not only provide you with cool volunteer projects, but also provide you with appropriate paperwork you might need for school, clubs, etc. for proof of community service.

If no volunteer center exists in your area, you can also try your local chapter of the United Way. They also specialize in connecting volunteers with non-profit agencies in need of assistance.

Good luck!

You can start in your own school. Visit your special needs teacher and volunteer your assistance as needed, offer to help in the Special Olympics meets, and better yet, raise money for the support of Special Olympics.

Too few folks think of the challenged amongst us.

Good luck!

You can offer your help to the elderly in your community. Pick up prescriptions or groceries, maybe take them to doctor's appointments. Meals on Wheels is a great program. You deliver home cooked meals to people who don't get out or cook. Maybe you already have that in your town. My daughter and I love to that. The people are sooo thankful.

You can plant flowers or plants (ask the local politicians where and when you can do this). You can help clean up a park, playground, or lake.
