I have been reading some of the comments on race, and ive read a few where people say that blacks get alot handed to them. And they shouldnt complain. And that they should excel more than other races do since we get things handed to us on a silver platter. For example since this has been talked about alot lately, Affirmative Action.

Does anyone ever think that we had a rough start in this country. To be ripped away from out families and culture and native languages. And to be put in a place where you arent allowed to learn to read or write. And have to basically a culture that wasnt meant for you. I think these things have a psychological effect that has been passed down from generation. And please dont say awwwww it was 200 years ago get over you. Which means my great- great-grandparents were slaves to this country. And grandparents had to fight for their rights(I dont think we've won the battle YET).

If you have items that you no longer need, should you be compelled to give them to "family" instead of someone else with a greater need?

I gave my 5 year old digital camera to my father in law's housekeeper. She had wanted advice to buy one, but I though that this lady is so good to my wife's dad, I gladly give it to her as a gift.

Now my wife's [college educated, high salaried] brother and wife are upset, saying "family should come first".

My wife is waffling, but I'd rather give according to need. The cleaning woman was interested in buying a camera to take pictures of her kids, etc, and has an income far beneath the brother in law and his wife....who have showed no interest in photography, and could easily buy this same camera on eBay for $60. To me, their only interest seemed to be getting something for "free",

Anyone else in this position? A friend calls it the "family comes first tax".

PS father in law is very happy with my decision, which is all that mattered!!

the force, the energy, god .. whatever you choose to call it has always been, it is and it will always be.
this force developed its conciousness and with that came thought and then feelings. It created love, lots of love, so much love that it had to make a vessle to store it in. but the love got do much that the vessle exploded (the big bang) creating our universe. so you see everything in our universe was created with love. christian, muslim, jehova, seek , hindu.... whatever you are we were all created by the same love. over time greed developed and with it came war and famine and religion. we all lost our way. .. the reason we are here is to feel the love that created us, hell is where we are living now... heaven is within us all, heaven is the love that was in the vessel. so if we all share this love from deep inside greed would be no more and wars and religion would be gone to leave the heaven that dwells within each and every one of us. the meaning of life its why we are here

The SciFi channel is doing one of its marathons and this is so much fun.

I like the one where the invalid lady gets mysterious phone calls from her former lover, and when the phone company investigates they find a downed wire on his grave. And "Nightmare at 40,000 Feet" and "To Serve Man" and the little girl who falls out of bed into another dimension - you know.

I have never been to the Deep South but I hear about that hospitality, at the same time folks tell me it isn't real or it is faked or that it is real and genuine from other people. So which is it?

Hopefully will one day visit or move to the South.

I am a dork when it comes to anything to do with computers, so please excuse my question.

The year has changed, so I don't need the Library to open showing the "Daily Text" page as there is nothing there now.
I can't for the life of me remember how to change the settings so that the opening page should be the "Index" or "Search" like I did last year January. (Does this make any sense??)

Please help, I've been fiddling for the past hour.

Conundrum- where are you??? :-))

What is the root of the word? Where did it come from? Who uses it? Who is allowed to use it? Apparently the proper spelling is 'duh', as the spell checker allowed that spelling to go through, but not 'dah'.

I hope this question is acceptable. I'm not meaning to Mormon bash verbally. I've had them in my home.

We talked about salvation and basically found I had said all the right things till they came to this point. According to them I had done everything required for salvation except had hands laid upon me by the appointed Mormon elder. Well beeeep! wrong the Mormons proclaim grace and works- the works of the laying on of hands by the Mormon elder.

Note I acknowledge the many fine Mormon people in the world.
But salvation is a gift of God.

I have had people say the hijab and niqab or kufi and beard brings more attention and we should not do it. Well I don't understand this reasoning for 3 reasons.

1. We are supposed to look like Muslims.

2. The attention is dawah with out words

3. Sexual attention is what you are to avoid, regular attention is not forbidden.

I am not judging anyone I just don't understand why someone would think like that. If your in hijab or niqab your saying I am Muslim, and thats what we are supposed to be doing. No one will be looking at you sexually, that is the point.

I have been reading so many instances of Biblical translations that are wrong and oppressive. Everything from a Pagan animal fertility ritual being turned into a homosexual act, from further evaluations of the book of Paul and it's really cryptic language.

There are tonnes of examples of mis-translations being used to oppress people and spread hatred. I just wondered if there was any sort of movement for a new translation from either Greek or Aramaic with the few hundred years of linguistic sciences that humanity has learned. Just a thought.

Is it like winning football teams and Grammy winners? Does god "protect" countries by not letting natural disasters happen the way Falwell and Robertson hint at?

People like Huckabee say we need to "take the country back for Jesus" but I want to know - what would that look like? What would happen to a country that did everything god wanted? HOW would he "favor" it?
