I have had people say the hijab and niqab or kufi and beard brings more attention and we should not do it. Well I don't understand this reasoning for 3 reasons.
1. We are supposed to look like Muslims.
2. The attention is dawah with out words
3. Sexual attention is what you are to avoid, regular attention is not forbidden.
I am not judging anyone I just don't understand why someone would think like that. If your in hijab or niqab your saying I am Muslim, and thats what we are supposed to be doing. No one will be looking at you sexually, that is the point.

People I am not saying the hijab makes you a Muslim. Your belief in Allah makes you a Muslim. Yes Islam starts in the heart. But the hijab is also a commandment from Allah, and to server Him you have to obey. I know some are not ready but that does not mean it is not necessary. Also Allah has commanded us to not be like the non Muslims and not dress like them, aka look like Muslims. Thats what that means.

I agree with you. That is indeed the point. And moreover Allah has made it compulsory for women,no matter what, we have to wear it.. so what people would think, I really don't care. Its for my own benefits provided by my religion to me, alhumdulillah.
Additionally, hair is something which adds more beauty to one's looks. If we cover our hair, we have covered half of our beauty. when I remove head scarf, m totally different and that is how it should be. ~! ( this is just an example as to show how a hijab makes difference)

In Islam , people should not hurt the others even by a little look ... Islam teaches people to be polite ... In Islam woman should be well clothes , not to wear tight clothes od transparent in order to be virtuous .... not to be hurt from the bad men who have heart disease ... That doesn't mean that all men are bad or can't control themselves .... and also that doesn't mean that the Muslim man can look at the woman who is not covered well ... No he is not allowed to do this .. In Egypt ... lots of Christian women like to wear modest clothes in order to the same concept ... so if Islam advice the woman to be more decent , why don't u agree this and make fun ?!!!! I am Muslim and don't wear the scarf but I like to be decent in my clothes ... Really I like to wear the scarf one day .... I like the picture of Mary by her lovely clothes and the veil ... Did Mary wore the veil in order not to be hurt from a Muslim man ?!

As salaamu 'alaikym, my friend.
Insha'Allah, besides living as we have been taught to live by the revelations in the Holy Qur'an and the lived example of the Prophet Muhammad (sallaahu 'alaihi wasalaam) so as to best teach Islam by our actions, our outward appearance should also reveal that we are Muslims.
Insha'Allah, I wear a full beard and a kufi with the kufi coming off ony when I bathe or wear a kint hat due to the cold weather or when I wash my kufi (and then I wear either my other kufi or another hat until the one being washed is clean and dry.)
As I am an American revert, most person think, at first, that I am a rabbi. This gives me an opportunity to explain to them that I am a Muslim, alhumdulillah, and then answer any question that I am able to regarding Islam. I have been fortunate enough to have spoken with persons in elementary schools, grocery stores, drug stores, gas stations, hospitals, book stores, department stores, banks, court houses, etc., alhumdulillah!
May Allah guide us all and keep us all on the straight path that is Islam. Ameen.
Ma'a salaam

I do not see the hijab as being a direct command of Allah swt for the Quran makes no mention that any woman other that the wives of the Blessed Prophet pbuh must be veiled.
The Holy Quran directs us to cover our adornments, and to be modest in our manner, but it is left up us how we chose to define these words.
I do not feel any less or more Muslim whether I am wearing the hijab or I am just dressed in what I consider is a modest and moderate manner.
Allah swt sees beyond the veil and into our hearts.
It is what He sees there that really counts.
To think otherwise is in itself, a form of vanity.

I saw a tv show in which a muslim guy asked another fully bearded muslim guy with a topi, what the meaning of surah fatiha means. He just had a blank look on his face. So no, we arent suppose to look like muslims, just cuz we r muslims. Jews also look like muslims, that doesnt mean they r muslims. Same thing with the nuns.
Most pp; these days are more worried about how to stand during prayers, where to put their hands during sajdah, how high should our pants be etc etc. That is not Islam. That is just 'acting' like a muslim.
IM NOT saying that we shouldnt do it. Im only saying that we should be a perfect muslim if we r to represent islam

by looking like muslims are we muslims
you have to be a muslim from within aparall is just a choice
im a very strong muslim woman but i dont wear the hijjab i dress extremely modestly and i wear the allah nexkace in my neck at all times to protect me and thats how i show im muslim but its ones choice to wear hijaab
and if the sexual attention is not wanted then it is never there
remember that woman who claimed that she was a muslim and her avatar was wearing a hijjab but she was out doing haraam but she showed herself as a muslim
i think it is more important to be a muslim then to look like one
peace

but there are some people who are more atracted to a woman in a hijjab and the the hijjab or niqaab were ment to not atract attention sexually or not sexually
and if you are living in a western place then when you where the hijjab its just saying to look at me
im not saying that the sisters who wear hijjab or niqaab in western societies are wrong because i think that they are very strong and i respect them its just i wouldnt recomend my mom or sister to wear it unless its their own choice
dont get me wrong i strongly with all my heart respect the sisters who wear the hijjab and niqaab but i believe its their choice
and by the way if a muslim sister is wearing a shirt and jeans in a western society trust me noone will look at her sexually becuase its so common here girls wear mini skirt(not saying that should be permited)but when a girl wears that men here arent looking at her sexually
i believe that women should dress modestly but the hijjab is just ones choice

Why are we supposed to look like muslims? In western society, you will not attract sexual attention by "normal" dress, so that's not a problem. Even modest bathing suits at the beach seem to elicit much reaction. We don't see people getting fondled or raped at the beach. Westerners are quite desensitized to it. hijab seems to send a divisive message to some, so I likje the "do as in rome" approach. That is just my opinion.
