I have never been to the Deep South but I hear about that hospitality, at the same time folks tell me it isn't real or it is faked or that it is real and genuine from other people. So which is it?

Hopefully will one day visit or move to the South.

I'm from south Louisiana and believe me it is real. When I visit other states people always tell me how friendly I am. When we go camping my husband has to cook for everyone in the park. It's just part of our Cajun and southern culture. Ya'll come back, ya hear! Seriously, you should come down here, we are very friendly; especially in the rural areas. Happy New Year. 2D

I'm a girl, and I LOVE southern accents! When a boy has a southern accent it's SO cute! It's hot in a way too lol. I find it charming, it's so different and ahhh, I love it :D

Of course it's real. My mother taught me to never let a guest leave hungry. We still talk to our neighbors, and even wave at friends going down the road.

Having grown up here I can say that it has always been real. I need to warn you however that it is on the wane as the south has become more like the other parts of the country.
My father would never leave anyone stranded on the side of the road, but now the thugs or gangs rob and sometimes kill good Samaritans and it gets a lot of publicity.
I lived in a new england state for two years and what I considered Rude they accepted as normal.I was also disheartened to find that several of my coworkers there assumed that I would just love racist jokes.Frankly I had enough of that in the south and after my military service became resentful of it.

Yes, for the most part. The main majority of people in the south are generally hospitable to anyone. But there is that few who only display this "southern hospitality" only to those who are of the "correct" race. (There seems to be more of that in the south than the north.)

Well I live in the south and it is a myth for some ppl and for others - more of the older ppls - a way of life. Now where I live, in the country, we have red neck boys trying to burn out house down. So we are just like you. But the southern hospitality is just like being very down to earth and very polite. Kind of going the old way..

North Carolina for me!!! Ya well I only know red necks.. But glad to know NC has a good name!

Well I'm not from the Deep South but I live in Southern Virginia and it's real. Although more and more my area is becoming more urbanized you still see men opening doors for women and people letting you over when your stuck in traffic. I never see that up North! Also, people are a bit more patient...But I'm sure that's not everywhere. People seem nier to me down here. I also like the way people treat you in North Carolina and South Carolina. Really nice, even if some are still rednecks! ^_^

YES!!!!!!!!!!! It is genuine hospitality, the only thing is that is slow service. No sense of urgency.
