Yes, there is discrimination. Like we are all money hungry, just read some of the answers that you have received. We 'get free money to go to college but hardly any of them finish highschool'. Where is this money and how can I utilize it? I know some of our government has funds set up so they can give out bursuries to some graduates. Just like there is FAFSA, or other funds for non natives. I mean, if any works their butt off they can get an education paid for by a college. As for all the casinos, many people are against them, myself for example, my reservation has a casino, but we've had to pay for that, the state troopers are allowed to come onto our land now, the first week they were allowed, two boys were rushed to emergency because of police brutality. the waters were contaminated. and then the monies that come from it, go to local communities, taxes are taken from the casino profits and thats why they don't tax our land.

Other discriminations is that we're all smugglers, and we're all drug dealers. true there are some bad seeds, just like any other community, only we're a smaller community that if 2 people do it then that makes a larger percentage then in the 5 billion non natives there are. I know of more non native convicts then I do native but they aren't seen, they hardly get noticed. Its honestly sad. we just want our land back so that our children and grand children have a place to live, yes we love our land, we don't want to be apart of mainstream society, I mean look at what you read in the papers, look at what your children look up to, Paris Hilton in Jail, Britney Spears on Coke, Lindsay Lohan in Rehab, AGAIN. If we teach our children to respect our elders, then maybe they can learn their culture, look up to our elders and learn. Where in the world can you learn Mohawk language? You can't go anywhere else, its here and its dying, we need to keep it going, how is it going to survive?

Why not? You act such as you're additionally in desire of giving the land interior the middle East lower back to the Palestinians. Oh yeah, you think of that the State of Israel is okay yet returning the "place of start" lower back to this is unique 'vendors' in united states of america isn't?did not the 'community human beings' be afflicted by a holocaust and only approximately finished extermination interior the call of "appear destiny"? no one is featuring 'giving each and every of the land' lower back to the community individuals, only the Justice and Freedom we delight in at their death,by potential of our forefathers palms. have been given the different fears not based somewhat,or are you carried out?

The American Indians here are the wealthiest in our area. They live in elaborate homes and have affluent jobs. I'm sure there are some that suffer some discrimination but there are some that don't. Anyone can be a victim of discrimination, I experience it a lot and I'm white. I don't allow it to affect me, nor do I follow that lead and discriminate. Happy New Year. 2D

Of course. The government is still breaking treaties with them left and right.

Most US citizens take for granted the right to travel as we see fit, but if the Native American leaves their homelands for more than six months at a time, they lose their rights as a Native American. (At least this is true for the Cherokee.)

I don't think so. Are there other groups of people who try to stay together as a group? Blacks for instance? No. Indians can get off of the reservations if they want to. Many do and get along in society just fine.

Look into how much money the U.S. Government pumps into their coffers. Look at the laws they can make and uphold themselves. And on top of all that look at the legal gambling they can have on their own land.

Many people look at pictures that show desolate, drunk, and drug addicted Indians [sic]. There are good sides of reservation life. You need to dig a little deeper to find it. Then look at the folks who left the reservations and assimilated into the American culture. Too bad happy stories don't sell ink.

As far as being discriminated on their own land by there own people...you have to be a little more specific.

Yes. But honestly, where I am from, it is unfortunate... they have such opportunity, they can go to university for free, but most choose to stay on the reserve. This is where the discrimination stems from, so much potential, and they don't even finish high school. Its up to the younger generation to fix the mistakes of their parents.
