I can't get used to using my left hand, but I made this decision just like every other left handed human being, so I know it's a common phenomena. So how can I more effectively choose to be left handed? And I want to completely loose my ability in my right hand, just turn it all off, ok? I'm sure God can help me. It will be just like when I chose to be gay, so it's not like I haven't done this before.

If there is "new scientific evidence" that would prove the existence of God, why would they keep it a secret and not release it to the world?

Do they NOT want to prove once and for all that their God exists? Or do they want to keep the knowledge all to themselves?

Aren't they required by the Bible to share their knowledge?

Or are they doing it for petty reasons - "neener neener neeeeeennneeeerrrr"?

Or are they defining the word "soon" the same way their messiah did when he told them he'd be returning "soon"?

C'mon...if you guys have "new scientific evidence," let's see it already...

The Affirmations of Humanism:
A Statement of Principles
• We are committed to the application of reason and science to the understanding of the universe and to the solving of human problems.
• We deplore efforts to denigrate human intelligence, to seek to explain the world in supernatural terms, and to look outside nature for salvation.
• We believe that scientific discovery and technology can contribute to the betterment of human life.
• We believe in an open and pluralistic society and that democracy is the best guarantee of protecting human rights from authoritarian elites and repressive majorities.
• We are committed to the principle of the separation of church and state.
• We cultivate the arts of negotiation and compromise as a means of resolving differences and achieving mutual understanding.
• We are concerned with securing justice and fairness in society and with eliminating discrimination and intolerance.
• We believe in supporting the disadvantaged and the handicapped so that they will be able to help themselves.
• We attempt to transcend divisive parochial loyalties based on race, religion, gender, nationality, creed, class, sexual orientation, or ethnicity, and strive to work together for the common good of humanity.
• We want to protect and enhance the earth, to preserve it for future generations, and to avoid inflicting needless suffering on other species.
• We believe in enjoying life here and now and in developing our creative talents to their fullest.
• We believe in the cultivation of moral excellence.
• We respect the right to privacy. Mature adults should be allowed to fulfill their aspirations, to express their sexual preferences, to exercise reproductive freedom, to have access to comprehensive and informed health-care, and to die with dignity.
• We believe in the common moral decencies: altruism, integrity, honesty, truthfulness, responsibility. Humanist ethics is amenable to critical, rational guidance. There are normative standards that we discover together. Moral principles are tested by their consequences.
• We are deeply concerned with the moral education of our children. We want to nourish reason and compassion.
• We are engaged by the arts no less than by the sciences.
• We are citizens of the universe and are excited by discoveries still to be made in the cosmos.
• We are skeptical of untested claims to knowledge, and we are open to novel ideas and seek new departures in our thinking.
• We affirm humanism as a realistic alternative to theologies of despair and ideologies of violence and as a source of rich personal significance and genuine satisfaction in the service to others.
• We believe in optimism rather than pessimism, hope rather than despair, learning in the place of dogma, truth instead of ignorance, joy rather than guilt or sin, tolerance in the place of fear, love instead of hatred, compassion over selfishness, beauty instead of ugliness, and reason rather than blind faith or irrationality.
• We believe in the fullest realization of the best and noblest that we are capable of as human beings.

I've given my secretary one of the designer ham packages for years. While she always seemed appreciative, I'd like to switch to a grocery store gift card this year. Our company gave small ones out last year, and everybody talked about how useful they were. I'm not sure how much to give her though. It's a pretty big company, and she works for several people. I don't have control over her salary, and I guess you'd call me a middle manager. What kind of Christmas present and what value do you give your secretary?

Additional details are that she complains about being nonexempt, and has made comments that the exempts (like me) make too much money. She probably thinks I can afford to give her a car ...not true LOL! She does a good job, but may only do two or three things a day for each of the people she works for. Mostly, she answers the phone and does some filing.

Seriously, what kind of practicing Muslim is violent? The extremists can't be. You can quote any verses you want, but the one below says it all. Fight, but don't start the fight. In other words, only in self defense. How are the extremists fighting in self defense? They are the ones causing trouble and killing innocent people. They are causing so much pain to the world. No matter what any other verse says, this one is the one that halts it all. "Begin not hostilities". Even then, the Quran further goes to say that only do what is necessary to stop the other side. Don't do anything more, for that is going beyond the limits. If somebody is trying to kill you, stop them. Don't kill them unless it's by accident. What do you make of this?

"“Fight in the way of Allah against those who fight against you, but begin not hostilities. Lo! Allah loves not aggressors.” Al-Qur’an 2:190"
