This is what I believe, tell me if you think it's okay.

I'm a Christian who believes the most important commandments were to love God, and love your neighbor as you love yourself. That's what it says in the Bible.

I don't go to church except on the occasional holiday, or funerals and baptisms.

I try reading the Bible everyday. I focus on the New Testament. Particularly Christ's word.

I try to love God with my heart and pray as often as I can. I let faith, hope, and particularly love guide my choices. I always forgive those who offend me. I pray for my enemies. I love everyone, even the lost.

My goal in life is to just love my friends in family with all my heart as long as God allows me to do so.

I was recently told off by a local Christian who told me I was a Liberal Christian and the reason the church is losing its power. He basically told me that dogma and strict religious traditions were more important than my loving philosophy.

Do I seem like a good Christian?

Or just too lazy?

Im not talking about thinking for the purpose of solving a
problem. Im talking about an earnest ponderance.

People seem to only grasp concepts in terms of either/or. For example, right and wrong - much of this is a grey area that requires a great amount of deliberation, but people seem to only adhere dogmatically to what others have told them.

When a person is put on trial the goal is for him to "win" the case. The jury is asked to pick a winner, not to determine the actual truth and arrive at an fair resolution.

It appears that in order to be understood by the laity complex concepts need to be broken down to opposing choices.
It appears as though people often avoid activites that require strenuous thought.

Is this the case?

I work in an office/engineering environment. Often I receive emails with a simple "thank you" in them. Is it rude to not reply with a "you're welcome" ?

I usually look at the "thank you" emails as an acknowledgment that my email was received and the information in it was sufficient. Usually they seem to come from those who hold positions higher than mine, hence the reason I am concerned with the proper etiquette.

Thanks

Christians complain endlessly about how "wrong" it is for Atheists and Agnostics to do the same towards pro-Christian films and literature.

Do any of you see the hypocrisy you promote by do so?

As I'm working on a project to help people understand what it takes to be a good gift giver, I like to have examples of really bad gifts, as many of them are quite funny. If you visit www.WhatNotToGive.com, you can see examples. Obviously, Christmas and Hannukah gifts are most of the entries, but I do not want to limit you to that. Thanks for sharing. You might even win a prize (see WhatNotToGive.com for details.)

There is already a fuss surrounding THE Golden Compass (see here: http://buzz.yahoo.com/buzzlog/81733/a-golden-controversy)
Is it not a clear indication that they prefer censorship to argument and alterbative viewpoints. Whwn was the last time non-believers boycotted an overtly religious film, let alone all the 90% of films with religious overtones?

I heard there's an account by Jesus Christ himself in which he claims to be a witness of the event in which Lucifer was expelled from heaven. Which passage is this?, could you post it or something?. It seems interesting.

They can give it but not take it? They can preach but not be preached to?
Are they upset that their word domination plans are not going as planned? I think so. Why else would they be so ticked off?

I think its funny myself, and I plan on seeing the movie JUST so I can tick off some Christians. Anybody in with me?

1. God himself is born of a virgin, dies & three days later rises from the grave. This makes the entire thing so difficult to believe as to reduce the potential market for acceptance.

2. God/Jesus preaches in parables that are difficult to understand.

3. God installs Paul as the chief interpreter of Christianity, practically lowering Jesus' own teaching to second place.

4. God places all these things in a series of books, then proceeds to lose the originals of all the books. The existing copies are filled with inconsistencies & must be voted on by committees to reach the "consensus" definition of the "word of God."

5. The weighing of "faith" versus "works" is so heavily contested that hundreds of denominations exist, each with their own idea of what the real formula for entrance to heaven is.

So is this a sign of intelligent design or an example of evolutionary variations of ideas, each of which is adapted to its own environment?

How do you use the tongue to pronounce the letter R in words like Red or Rabbit?

I've heard you're just supposed to just raise and curl the tip of your tongue so that it almost touches the roof of your mouth but I cant stop making a "wr" sound instead?

Did things just "click" for you? Were you brought in kicking and screaming, but then found it to be true? What makes it "true" for you?

I can't believe the Bible just because the Bible says it's true, same for the Quran.

What is it, deep down, that you really believe in? Why? How was this made apparent to you? What are your thoughts on opposing viewpoints?

Basically, just trying to get an idea of where you are :D
