Agreed. Their hysteria is most amusing and I'm gonna talk about it and go see it just to piss them off.

The movie is based on a book about killing God. The movie is targeted to a young audience and that is what is so upsetting. Minds that young are "sponges" Any one who cared about children would not want to expose a child to this. This is a choice a person makes but the age bracket this movie is geared towards is way too young to be making these kind of decisions. Also, nothing in the previews shows the true meaning of the movie. Most parents will take their kids to see it not knowing and have alot of explaining to do to repair the damage.
You seeing the movie will not "tick anyone of us Christians off." How overly braggart of you, We will feel sorry for you, that's all.

There is a fine line between preaching your oppinions and flat out attacking someone elces belife. When the word magistirum was used to represent the authoity that is bad they deffinately crossed the line and the motive of the movie was made quite clear. The word magistirum is the name of the teaching authority of the Roman Catholic church so they have a right to be upset.

so sad that your life is so empty that you have to fill your time with seeking ways to "tick Christians off." You know what, go see the movie. I'm certainly not going to lose any sleep over your attendance. The movie's theme sounds right up your alley.

I've seen The Exorcist, Damien, and The Bride of Chuckie. Purely entertainment directed where this type should be, toward adults. It would be one thing if this movie was directed the same, but they are directing this at our children. Young, innocent minds that are easily molded and scarred, shouldn't be secretly plotted against their raising and parents' beliefs. And it only starts with the movie, then directs to the more morbid books to follow.
Ed A, you put it very well.

Confusion of fantasy with reality. Blindness to their agreement with evil. Fear of copetition.
Oh, and the heroine of the movie is a "witch". How totally scary!
I'd like to see it, but that has nothing to do with how Christians (who really aren't followers of Christ) feel about it.

Most believe in a god (Yaweh, Jesus, Allah, others).
"god" is a generic for deity, but the movie targets the Catholic Church by virtue of it's terminology.
The author of the books this dumbed-down movie is based on has declared 80% of the world to be idiots.
I'm guessing that even you could see them being a bit miffed at that.
No Christian movie (LOtR had parallels but was not an endorsement of any faith in particular, technically speaking) was forced on anyone, but this movie is targeting children with the "Harry Potter"-like method of endorsing the act of 'killing god'. they won't kill him, but will grow to think/emote/hate like you endorse, and most parents want better than that for their children.

I choose not to spend my money and time with Mr. Pullman and his agenda.
Give it but not take it? What's that?
Have I preached to you? Perhaps I've answered a question of yours but only because you asked.
Word domination? Yea, no that's not it.
I'm not ticked off or upset.
If you want to throw your money to Mr. Pullman, go for it. Free will man, free will.

I just saw it and I don't know what you are talking about. They admitted to castrating the story - you know, bending over and taking it because of the pressure. The one's that made the movie are the woosies. They decided to 'water down' things so that they wouldn't have to be scared.
So this Christian thinks you are overlooking a few things. And you seem to be blind to their woosiness.

Christians feel the movie threatens their dogma.. They worry that Christian's will be lead to question their faith and will learn that they were fooled by the fairy tales... It all boils down to fear of losing the sheeple and the revenue they generate...
