I don't believe in gods, or magic, or anything supernatural. But nevertheless I labor under the illusion that I can "jinx" myself if I am not careful. Although I know this idea is irrational, and just a way of making myself feel in control of things....I still have it. Surely the majority of us have some irrational beliefs we hold? Do you think maybe the difference between atheists and religious folk is that we can recognize our own unfounded thoughts, while other people prefer the comfort of the illusion?
Or do you think maybe we are being unfair to believers, since we all have our own irrational ideas too?

Okay, so I am 14 years old. My parents won't let me follow the Buddhist faith, and I don't know why. They are Christian, And I was raised to be a Christian, but I don't feel right practising Christianity, Buddhism seems like the right religion for me. I don't want to practise a religion if my heart's not into it. So what should I do?

i was watching a video on the bohemium grove and they talked about the people pertending to sacrifice a baby(not real of coarse). but then i thought christians pretend to drink jesus's blood, right. The guy said that it was wrong to do that, but then again, right and wrong is in the eye of the beholder. So what do you think.

Just a question from a nuetral point of view.

There are dozens of religions in this world, surely only 1 can be the true path.
Imagine if you devoted your life to your religion, only to find out that when you die, you appear at the gates, with some person holding up a brown card at you with the word "BLUFF"
Even if you gain access, imagine all the bloody bickering there would be between different sects. For instance your brother got in, but your sister didn't because of different personal beliefs.
How mad would that make you feel?
Would you want to enter heaven, even though you knew your entire family got refused???
This theory makes a mockery of the whole concept in my opinion!

should I not even bother asking even tough I really need the thing. I don't want to seem like a christian who wants to use God. I wanna be a real christian all the time but it's been real hard to obey Him. I've been bitter and disobedient to Him coz He's not dealing with my ennemies like I wanted Him to and He let some bad things happened in my life. It's hard, real hard for me now, I need a fast miracle from Him.
Give me some verses if you think He might do it for me coz I don't He will.
Please don't use words like His timing or His will.

I'm supposed to pay at the front desk, so I can't give the person who cut my hair a $20 bill and tell them to "keep the change." Each barber has a cup sitting on their counter with a bunch of bills stuffed into it. Do I put my tip in this cup? Or lay it on the barber's counter? Or give it directly to the barber? Or perhaps give it to the person at the front desk when I pay?

does god send people to hell conservatively, moderately, or liberally?

do christians vote conservatively.....or just along political lines of people who claim they will do their bidding for "voting conservative"? Can people actually vote along party lines without using religion, and does their political choice actually correctly represent their morals?

My experience, thanks to Karl Rove...no

Yours?

Why are pro-abortion groups afraid to let an unsuspecting woman know that the “thing” growing within her is a human life?
Even with that information, under current law the woman would still have the “right” (wrong though it may be) to have that life flushed out of her system

I honestly couldn't say it if my life depended on it. You could put a gun to my head at this point in time threaten to shoot my brains out if I don't say a Hail Mary and my brains would be splattered. Isn't that sad?

The Bible says:
The bat was a bird, it's actually a mammal
The earth is a circle or a square, it's actually a slightly deformed sphere
The earth is stationary, the earth rotates and orbits around the sun
The earth is supported by strings or w/e: gravity supports celestial objects
All life was simultanously created: life started from a single common ancestor 4 billion years ago
Life doesn't change: evolution

Is there anymore scientific misconceptions in the Bible you can think of? Can anyone name something that the Bible got right about the natural world?

Just wondering why there are so many immature people on here. The things they say back to you is so silly. Lol! I think some are hardheaded as a mule. They don't want to accept the truth. So I guess they want to end up in hell. Which is so sad! Praying for the lost to accept Jesus before its too late! Jesus loves you! I am 33 years old and been a christian since I was 15. Jesus has really blessed me. Have faith and give Jesus a chance.

I just found out that my grandmother is dying and only a (scientific) miracle could make her better from her cancer. Last person in my family to die, did so unexpectably (to me anyway) and I wasn't *too* close to him. And before him was my grandfather when I was 4.

Last time I saw my grandmother was very sweet - she held my hand the entire time and I helped her with some poetry.

My mother just told me the news by phone (I'm in college) and I'm not sure what to do or how to feel or anything - I can't stop crying. I can't visit my family soon for a couple days, and my grandmother *could* die before I see her. And anyway, if she never gets better I can never see her because they're keeping her sleeping so she isn't in pain... :(

Seeing as how I know Heaven/Afterlife to not exist, I was wondering how other atheists deal when a close family member dies or is possibly going to die.
