I'm supposed to pay at the front desk, so I can't give the person who cut my hair a $20 bill and tell them to "keep the change." Each barber has a cup sitting on their counter with a bunch of bills stuffed into it. Do I put my tip in this cup? Or lay it on the barber's counter? Or give it directly to the barber? Or perhaps give it to the person at the front desk when I pay?

Usually at the end of your cut, the barber will spin you around so you can see the back of your head and then ask you if everything looks satisfactory. After you say yes, he/she'll take off your apron - just put some singles in the tip cup when you stand up if you have any on you.

If not, then get change from the front when you pay & walk back to their station, say thank you and drop you 2 or 3 bucks into the cup.

A tip isn't suppose to be some grand event & you shouldn't expect anything more from the tippee than a simple "Thank You"... not "Oh My! Thank You SOOOOO much for your two dollars, I'm SOOOOO grateful!"

The above rules cover the standard "expected & routine" tip common in the service industries (food, salon, massage, etc.) for simply meeting your expectations.

A larger tip, one in excess of 20%, for service that exceeded your expections can be given hand to hand. Simply fold the bill in half, twice & pass it to the intended receipiant - again with just a simple thank you. Because again, a tip is not suppose to be a big, overt gesture. The tip is for good service on their part, not so you can feel like a "balla' ."

If, on the other hand, you routinely seek the same barber and as a result develop a personal relationship with them; then a hand-to-hand tip is more personal and signifies a more informal relationship.

If your question was simply "What do I do if I don't have singles?" Just get change when you payout, & walk back to the barber. Your tipping the person that cut your hair, at least make sure it finds it's way to them. I, personally, never put that responsibility on anyone else.

You give the tip directly to the barber. Or you pay at the front desk, get change and go back and give it to the barber. Or you can ask the person at the front desk to give the barber the tip.

If you are paying by credit, usually you can add a tip. If it is in cash, even if you need to obtain change from the cashier first, hand the tip directly to the barber. Proper tipping for barbers/stylists is now 20%, just as a FYI.

If you plan on never going to that barber again and you were unhappy with the cut, no I wouldn't tip him. A tip shouldn't be expected, it should be earned. If, however, you plan on going back and you really don't think the mistake was that big of a deal, I would tip him/her.

When I see a cup, I give my tip to the Barber and I watch them place it in their cups. Some places ask for you to tip them not the cashier. Just in case the tip doesnt make it to the babrber. I

all the cup is to hint for a tip. if the barber can process the bill then it's up to you to say keep the change. Or giving it to them is fine

I would stay away from the tip cup, don't want to be accused of stealing.

either way is OK.when i have my grandsons hair cut at the barbers,i pay by check and add the tip, which will depend on the cut its self,if his hair looks just the way i ask it to be cut the tip is more,if it does not then the tip is less, there is no set tip for a barber, however you could take a few bucks aside of the amount of the hair cut to tip.

We don't tip barbers in Ky, they charge enough anyway, the cup is just to rip you off, ignore it, unless it is a pretty woman cuts your hair.
