I assume you are aiming this mainly at the Christians on R&S, because frankly, if this was how they all were, we would still be in the Dark Ages. I have never read as much garbage, misinformation and flat out ignorance than I have here.

It is quite frightening at times.

and yes, great leaps in learning were made when religion was the norm, but thats just the point. It was normal. No one was jumping up and down slapping people on the forehead and screaming about demons. It has degenerated into a fanaticism that has slowed and in some cased stopped the free flow of knowledge and progress.

No. Christian belief increases curiosity, because of the incarnation of Christ, which gives eternal value to the created world.
Christians built the universities in Europe, and hundreds around the world. The first thing Christian missionaries did was teach people to read, and start schools. Other believing people did it too - Muslims and Jews, for instance.

That isn't a fair summation. Christians can be just as curious and as any humans. Science isn't necessarily a separate option for people of faith. I may not believe in Christ, as the son of God, or belong to any religious faith for that matter, to have a deep understanding for the need to have knowledge about the Universe. How can we separate the two? I just don't shove my belief in my God into discussions where some may have no belief in a God. To do so is simply egocentric.

Progress was made when 99.9% of the population was still religious 100 years ago. Although it happened VERY slowly, and religion still repressed scietific advances, as they do today, but at a lesser degree. If we were all atheists, or simply had no religion, we would be centuries ahead of where we are now.

Fundies strongly discourage curiosity, because it is a form of intelligent thought. Fundies want people to "believe", and to "accept", and above all to not question things. They are instructed on how to avoid any examination of the obvious flaws and impossibilities of the bible. These are glossed over with pat catch phrases, and cute religious homiles. There is no "thought", and no curiosity.

Progress was made when everyone was Christian. But I hope I don't have to explain the difference between the Cyber world and the Real world.

History shows that Christians have been the leaders in progressing our society.

Christian belief does not kill curiosity; God just helps us find the answers.
Progress in medicine has been made because people searched for answers. One does not learn unless one asks questions, no matter what one's faith is.

There has been much progress because Christians sought answers.
