I'm just asking out of curiosity, as all the questions on here all seem to be from people of those beliefs, Atheism and Christianity more so than Islam.

And before you point out that Atheism isn't a relighious belief, I do already know that. Its more along the lines of a lack of relighious belief. I just didn't have room to add that in.

This should make us think...

The author of this article "Observations on Hijab" is unknown.
It is however, thought to be written by a brother.
Funny as it is, there are a number of lessons to be learnt...

It has been my personal observation that some Muslim girls and women do not realise the significance of hijab. Hijab is Arabic for protection and cover. Some people put a lot of effort into their hijab, yet it serves no purpose. I am referring to the pointless hijab that some girls wear.

The first pointless hijab is referred to as the headband hijab. It is a band of fabric approximately 4 inches wide. It covers the back of the head and allows all the hair to be exposed. It doesn't serve much in terms of modesty, but at least it comes in handy in case of an unexpected tennis match!

The second pointless hijab is the dupatta, also known as the Saran wrap hijab. It covers all the hair, but it is totally transparent. Again it doesn't serve much in terms of modesty, but it keeps the hair nice and fresh!

The third type of hijab is known as the Mickey Mouse Hijab. It is when a girl wears a black scarf and tucks it behind her ear, so that her ears stick out!

We now move on to my favourites - the yo-yo hijabs:
The first yo-yo hijab is the scarf that keeps falling down and needs to be constantly pulled back up.... up, down, up, down, just like a yo-yo!

The second yo-yo hijab is also referred to as the convertibe hijab. This type of hijab is predominant at any type of social event, i.e. an Aqeeqah, Bismillah party, Ameen party, wedding, etc. This is when an Imam or Qari comes up to the microphone and starts to recite Qur'an. At this point, all the convertible hijabs come up... until he says "SadaqAllahu Atheem." I'm not sure, but apparently in some cultures that translates to "OK sisters, you may take off your scarves."

I'm sure this may seem odd, but what's even funnier is when people do not anticipate the recitation of Qur'an at a social event, and are forced to be creative and use accessories such as a purse to cover one's hair. I was surprized to see a woman hold her purse over her head as "hijab"... as if the multitudes of men surrounding her are not a good enough reason to wear hijab, but some guy reciting du'a compels her to hold a purse over her head. Her friends were more creative... one friend used her dinner napkin. I was also laughing when I saw the communal hijab- two or more girls dropped under one dinner napkin during the recitation of Qur'an. Her other friend was still more creative. She used her coffee saucer on the back of her head. I wasn't sure of it was hijab or Yamaka. I didn't know if she was a Muslim or a Jew. I felt like going up to her and saying "Shalom alaikum, sister."

And, people should remember that hijab is not just a protection from guys, but from a girls' nafs (ego) as well. It should prevent girls from having to spend hours in front of the mirror doing her hair. But, unfortunately, you see girls in front of the mirror for hours doing their hijab as they would do their hair, with all sorts of elaborate braids and the like. I wanted to go up to a sister and say "Is your hijab naturally curly?" I also felt compelled to go up to another girl and say "Pardon me, but is your hijab naturally that colour, or did you dye it"?

Well the point is that some people make an effort to wear hijab, but it is futile, because it is not fulfilling its purpose. It's like using an umbrella with holes in it. Hijab is used for protection from guys as well as from the girl herself, and should not be used as an accessory or for beautifying one's self.

In modern society, the existence of Pluto was not confirmed until the early 1930's, making nine planets. The Mayans always called earth the seventh planet. Earth is the seventh planet if you are coming from outside of our solar system and count Pluto on the way. The Mayan calender predicted to the day (Aug 27 07) when Mars will be as close to Earth as it ever gets. It speaks of two moons, and a gate that is brought along with the "two moons" (our Moon and Mars) that will take us to the end of the sixth sun (Dec 21, 2012) AT A TIME WHEN THE EARTH IS COVERED BY A WEB!!! WWW=World Wide Web. Very insightful and amazing. Please share your thoughts with me and any links that might be of pertinence to this topic. Thanks.

Don't you think that anykind of reform is in a way or another a kind of brain washing.
What is truth? What is fact?
truth is variable from time to time, isn't it?
Should a person abide to the truths and facts of the sorrounding society? and if they don't convince him should he/she rebel against it and how can he/she survive in such society if he rebels against it?

I imagine this has been posted before but... if there is no supreme, omniscient, omnipotent being, how can there really be a right and wrong? I understand a majority in society can determine what is CONSIDERED to be right and wrong, but on an individual level how can you tell someone what they do is right and wrong.

The way I see it, the only way to say what is absolutely right and wrong is for there to be a being greater than us, and who created everything, because then He has the right to determine what should and should not be. Otherwise, I don't see how any individual, or even a majority of people, can tell another person that something they do is wrong. Sure, society can put an individual in jail or punish them however, but what I'm saying is, can we really consider what they did to be wrong. Maybe a better term would be "not condusive to the well being of society."

Just thinking. Not really looking for a religous argument. Just your thoughts on this theory. Thanks.

Money and travel issues and lack of time aside, if someone were to have an open invitation to attend an R&S convention, would you want to go to the convention?

If so, what topics would you discuss? And who would you have for the discussion panel, the keynote speaker, and the
moderator?

Who would provide the entertainment?

Who would cater the food? Besides the obvious bran muffins, what food would we have there?

Would we have a food fight between the Christians and the Atheists?

What topics would be in the break out sessions?

What games would you play if you were there in real life?

Would we recognize you or would it be more fun to play, "guess who I am in the forum" for an ice breaker?

Do you think we could actually resolve any issues?

Who would provide security?

If you knew that some of the people who have ticked you off in the past were to be there, what would you say to them?

I am not trying to insult or belittle anyone in anyway. I am an R&S regular and I often read people saying "I was born this way", during the regular arguments.
I am not saying this is untrue, I was just wondering if there is any impiracle evidence or research to back this up or its really hot air.

So is it genetic, chemical or nuerological? And is there any evidence that you can cite for me?

Note: I don't think there is anything wrong with homosexuality, I was just wondering about the validity of this claim. I thought I was born Asexual in all honesty. Then developed into a Heterosexual as I grew older.

So please can you give me the science this is based upon?

support of JW smokers by the Watchtower Society?

No disfellowshipping for Somerset JW who was convicted on 23/8/07 by Bristol Crown Court of 24 charges of child abuse involving 13 victims (one an 18 month old baby). Disfellowshipping can be, and is, sometimes carried out for JWs 'caught' smoking tobacco. How can this be? Does the Wt. Soc. want us to think smoking is a more hideous crime than paedophillia?

Before you get too fluffed up, let me elaborate...
You have not seen God, correct?
You are required to "understand" everything you know about God through indirect sources...either the Bible, or, if he's real, through the world around you and through yourself. You must admit that your concept of God is an imagination of what he may be like. You must further admit that you cannot understand a being like that fully, so your concept is limited by your imagination. Nothing personal.

So, can you imagine how frustrated others could become when dealing with you in everyday life, and when faced with Bible-based legislation and Bible-based "morality"? Can you empathize?
