Here's my situation.... I'm 24. I was baptized and confirmed protestant (specifically, baptized Lutheran and confirmed Methodist). I haven't been religiously active for 6 years or so (except attending Chrismas/Easter service with my family out of respect for them) because I've been going through a phase of confusion about my faith. Now, I have realized that I want to take Christ back in my life and eventually become active in a church, and I am considering converting to Catholicism.

I've talked about it with my parents, and they would be very supportive (My Dad's side of the family is Catholic). However, my family means the world to me and I've wondered how this would affect things.

Specifically, if I visited on Christmas, could I go to church with them out of respect (honoring Mother/Father)?

When I have children, and they visit their grandparents, would they be "allowed" to go to church with them? Asking my entire family to attend mass to accomodate me seems selfish

I've been thinking about Islam and, one thing that has been bugging me is, how can a person even convert and become a muslim if one can't even properly read the Qur'an? It is my understanding that it is not meant to be translated; this is part of why the Bible is not considered as accurate of a spiritual book as the Qur'an, right?, because the Bible has been through a number of translations and adaptations which may have been done so in a potentially manipulative manner. So, anyway, any translations are "not really" the official word from God since they're translated. But I get it, the five pillars of Islam are what are the foundation for the religion, and I already fast for Ramadan and give to charity, but this issue is bothering me about converting --how can I possibly even pray the Right Way if I can't properly read the sort of "official" holy writings (which are in Arabic, not English)?

There are no right or wrong answers to this question. I'm trying to understand how an Atheist feels on this issue. Humans have great imagination, talent, social ability, and intelligence, so do you ever feel cheated or as if it's a shame, thar humans are here only to exist, survive, or live with the possibilities of ONLY 60-80 years for the average person? Even if it's longer, does an end disappoint you?

Do you ever ask yourself what is the point of researching and studying? Why? If we will all cease to exist, why study for the future? I can understand accepting living and dying for animals, but what are your thoughts on this for humans?

This question is only for people who do NOT believe in the Biblical God Christians such as Noah, Moses, and Abraham acknowledged. and people who believe that after we die, that's it. This question is not for people who believe in reincarnation and other Gods or ideas which offer a possibility for extending life, or returning to repeat life.

I saw on freecycle someone asking for a free car for a single mom who was is tears and not sure how she would get to work. Her car was a lemon and died and not worth repairing. I offered to give my car that was for sale. The friend that posted the ad was 'moved to tears'. Than I didn't hear anything. I emailed a few days later and she said the mother would decide on Saturday. I felt upset. Not only was this mother in a position to 'decide', but she was functioning all week without a car. I felt taken advantage of and withdrew my offer on Sunday, mentioning that I also am a single mom and will sell it and spend the money on my own family, as the situation was not 'dire' like I thought. I got an angry email about how she is taking the bus and I, as a parent 'should' understand that busy happens and kids get sick. And thanks but no thanks. If you are not understanding she does not want it.

I was studying last night and I for some reason picked up a KJV Bible (I normally study on my Bible computer program). I began to read Matthew 5 because a friend of mine said she had read it the other day and I like that chapter anyway. So I am reading and I come across verse 13 where it talks about Christians being the salt of the earth. I don't know why but I meditated on this verse and prayed for understanding for about an hour and a half. I know what it means but I don't know why I spent that long on one verse. I have prayed and asked God to reveal why He laid that scripture on my heart but I am still not sure. Anyway do you all have any thoughts or comments about this or Matthew 5:13 in general?

i am reading the bible for the frist time in awhile and i'm trying to relate the bible to my life. i came arcoss something that reminded me of my ex-bf. he use to be abusive more mentally than phsyically. he would always say sorry which being a nice woman that i am i said ok. i often wondered when he dies would he be accepted into heaven even though he hit me. i honestly dont think he ask for God's forgiveness. although we arent together anymore i still pray he gets the help he needs. by me praying for him, will it redeem his sins or must he pray to god and say sorry in order to get in.

my one friend told me i was marked because i almost died in weird accidents 3 times in the last 6 months, like:
1) i almost got hit by a car
2) i fell down a wooded path and was almost impaled by a metal rod sticking out of the ground
3) i slipped on a tombstone that was overgrown with moss and was almost stabbed in the neck with a screw

so i'm just curious do u believe in the grim? and what would you do if you were marked by him/her?

And, may I wish all of the fathers here, of all beliefs, a very happy Father's Day? I hope you'll all have a great one!

The first commandment.

What other gods is he referring to? Obviously he is acknowledging the existence of other gods.

The biblical god is saying it is ok to worship zeus IF you put me first.

So, I've been wondering why people believe in there religion. Is it mainly that you hope there is a god? Also, what if you are wrong? What if religious beliefs are blocking and stalling the progress to better, updated and happier living for human beings? What if a the idea of a god(s) is so wrong and we realize it, how would our human race take that?

Ok well first off, Hi my name is Eric...ok yeah...now...I sing and write songs and play guitar for a Rock band...Pure Silhouette(www.myspace.com/puresilhouette) and origionaly we were "Christian Rock," we would play alot of cover songs and also Vineyard worship music....but now about a half a year later (we have been togther about a year)...I fell that our band should be you know "Christian by faith, but not by genre"...I really like to write songs about "world flaws" "what makes life worth living for.." and so on, my writting have been compared to alot of contemerary rock...i guess the way Switchfoot writes...they are really a big influence in my life...i do my best not to copy them...they are only an influence...anyways...our drummer is the son of a pastor...so rifly he is very religous...and im not sure how my new approch on song writting and style will fly with him and the rest of the band(he writes some songs too)(some of the songs on our myspace are his lyrics and my music)cont->

I have looked at the bible story and also more background information such as the below passage. How do Christians explain this-or is it all lies?

"Many diseases can't survive in hosts other than humans. Many others can only survive in humans and in short-lived arthropod vectors. The list includes typhus, measles, smallpox, polio, gonorrhea, syphilis. For these diseases to have survived the Flood, they must all have infected one or more of the eight people aboard the Ark.
Other animals aboard the ark must have suffered from multiple diseases, too, since there are other diseases specific to other animals, and the nonspecific diseases must have been somewhere"
