The day I returned home from Basic Training in Georgia and feeling the pride my Father exuded as he towed me around to see his buddies. I honored him and my family as a whole, it made me very proud and still does to this day. That was 20 years ago.

Probably the last time he & I went shopping in Greenwich Village together. Toward the end of his life, I felt like I got to know my father as a person, not just a parental figure. I'm happy we were able to relate to each other that way before I had to say goodbye.

And yes, it does make me smile.

One of my fondest memories was when he and I were out in his boat off Miami, FL. A squall was approaching us very quickly and he tied the boat up to a nearby buoy. AS the rain pelted us and the wind blew fiercely, he crouched over me and keep a little of the rain off me, he had his arms around me. I felt sheltered.

My father, older brother and me on a hunting trip.

My dad grew up in the country, but he didn't hunt much when he was older, so we didn't go hunting much together. We never shot anything during these trips. (And to be honest, I never much wanted to shoot anything.) But our hunts were a welcome break from city life for both of us.

During one trip, from a dirt road in a place Dad called "the hills," my brother and I saw a cougar from the car. It was standing fairly far away, but it was close enough so that we could see it twitch its tail. My brother and I gave each other a simultaneous "Did you see that?" look. Later that day, we saw a hawk dive for prey.

That memory does make me smile. I treasure it because we'd never seen such a display of wildlife before, and I'm afraid we'll never see it again.

One of my favorites was when I was like 5 years old, and we lived in Colorado. Our trailer Park was up on a hill and at the bottom was a river. My dad liked to go trout fishing there.

One day he came in and told us to look down the hill. When we looked, on the bank of the river, he had written my initials in HUGE letters in the snow.

It was cool...

My daddy is still alive, but I still have memories. I love it when we have "heart to heart." I am listening to butterfly kisses right now (i am only 13) and I can't wait until we can dance to it at my wedding. I love my daddy, i look just like him!

I was very small then, but every night after dinner my dad would lie on the bed and read and I would jump on his belly and bounce on him like a horse. LOL He would say, 'Honey, you're gonna make me throw up' and I would laugh and laugh...LOL
