In some countries, being a famous figure means no more taxes.

In his case, I don't think the romans would have let him get away with that (even though he had his group of... well, groupies) so I assume he got his money in a scam that had something to do with water, fish and bread...

Seriously, the only time that the Bible mentions Jesus "owing" anybody money was when He and Peter had to pay the Roman taxes. He told Peter to go catch a fish, and it would have a coin in its mouth to pay their tax.

So who says you can't make any money sitting and fishing all day? ;-)

Well since he was a carpenter most of his life he probably payed the roman taxes that way.

The bible says he was a carpenter.So i guess he got paid doing that.Maybe when he was preaching he got donations.I don't really know just guesses.
