Once on a train a British girl asked me that and I said English. She found that strange. I mean being educated in English I find it the most comfortable language to think in. My mother tongue is Bengali. I am Indian, know six languages, but still.

(Practitioners of Islam are generally taught to follow some specific customs in their daily lives. Most of these customs can be traced back to Abrahamic traditions in Pre-Islamic Arabian society. We follow our daily prayers + the sunnah of the prophet) Does your religion have something similar? Muslims, can you expand on what you do daily that is Sunnah? (i.e Looking in the miror prayer, brushing the teeth, cooking, cleaning, saying bissmillah)

"Come see victory, in the land called fantasy
loving life, a new decree,
bring your mind to everlasting liberty"

The above lyrics are from "Fantasy" by Earth Wind and Fire. English isn't my native language, and I have difficulty understanding them, especially the "loving" part. (I know what "love" means but not "loving (love+ing)")

Is the following lyrics written in complete sentence correct?

"Come and see the victory in the land called fantasy.
To love your life is a new decree,
which will bring your mind to everlasting liberty."

The entire Fantasy lyrics:

"
And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man...

And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.

And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs."

"And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS."

I've been entertaining the thought that there may not be an afterlife. As you descend to the end of your life does the thought of absolutely no conscious moments after you breath your last make you fidgety? Could the afterlife be an invention of people horrified at the thought of non-existence? If I could trick myself into believing that when I die I'll go to a wonderful place where all my wants and needs will be fulfilled, that would be a comfort.

Everyone knows how powerful "Nature" can be. I believe Nature has kept us alive and Mother Nature can also vanquish / destroy all human civilisation, maybe all living beings in no time if she wishes. Anyone disagrees ?? I would like to have individual opinions.

There three cults say to hate everyone that is not one of them. Thus causing all the current wars. Does this make them different from peaceful religions like buddism and hinduism that does not hate others?

Mav thinks about question on if Christians would tell their children to go ahead and believe whatever they want.
We, as parents, train our kids to do what's right and for Christians (and many faith groups) that includes going to worship service.
We expect our children to follow our rules until they leave home - come in before a certain time, clean up after yourself, go to worship service.

Is that brainwashing or just being a parent?

Consider the following verse from the Gita:

"Those whose intelligence has been stolen by material desires surrender unto demigods and follow the particular rules and regulations of worship according to their own natures."
[Bhagavad Gita 7:20]

The Gita states that people who are materialistic worship demigods i.e. ‘gods’ besides the True God.

UPANISHADS:

The Upanishads are considered sacred scriptures by the Hindus.

The following verses from the Upanishads refer to the Concept of God:

"Ekam evadvitiyam"
"He is One only without a second."
[Chandogya Upanishad 6:2:1]1

"Na casya kascij janita na cadhipah."
"Of Him there are neither parents nor lord."
[Svetasvatara Upanishad 6:9]2

"Na tasya pratima asti"
"There is no likeness of Him."
[Svetasvatara Upanishad 4:19]3

The following verses from the Upanishad allude to the inability of man to imagine God in a particular form:

"Na samdrse tisthati rupam asya, na caksusa pasyati kas canainam."

"His form is not to be seen; no one sees Him with the eye."
[Svetasvatara Upanishad 4:20]4

There is no reason for anyone in America to be homeless for more
than a few months. Except for laziness, addiction and mental illness. There is plenty of help available for those willing to work.
In any major city there is more free food available than a person could eat. Even if you work for minimum wage you can get food stamps and HUD housing and help with your utilities and get by just fine. We do need these safety nets because sometimes people need help and they deserve it. But I don't see the logic in giving a homeless person money that will most likely be spent on alcohol or drugs. This enables them to stay homeless and addicted indefinitely. You're not helping them. "Will work for food"
is nonsense. They want booze and drugs and I'm not going to pay for it. If you want to really help these people don't give them a penny. Give them the phone numbers to the appropriate agencies.
