I know that Christians (and other people, for all that matter) say that it is wrong, and I believe it is, too. Can anyone tell me a verse in the Bible that SPECIFICALLY says premarital sex is wrong? I have found many places where the Bible talks about sexual immorality (there's a verse about it in almost every book of the Bible), but where does it say that premarital sex is immoral? Any help would be well appreciated. Thanks.

The "god of the gaps" argument for atheism says that religion always uses God to explain the unknowns still remaining in scientific discovery.

For example, when people didn't know what caused the planets to move, religious people would say that God caused it. However, we now understand the role of gravity and general relativity, so science has closed that gap. Now it's not unusual to point to God causing the big bang because science has yet to discover any other cause.

Does religion always insert God into an area where science may eventually crowd God out? How can you have a faith that does not substitute God for science?

Do we take this literally? Or is it figurative language? Why would God choose to pave the streets of Heaven with a metal that isn't even Earth's most precious metal? If the idea is that we're going to have the best of everything in Heaven, then wouldn't God choose a more valueable metal with which to pave Heaven's streets?

God doesn't need anything, so why would it be about 'making us to love and serve him'.. according to you, God is everything, including love and is capable of doing all things without any help, so why would we be created soley to serve and love? Then on top of that, go to suffer forever if we don't. That is just sadistic.

Why would God one day come to attention and say 'I'm bored, so I'm going to create a planet and creatures, and make some rules up that they have to follow or to go hell, just for fun".....I can't really think of any other reason.

Does anyone out there know of a religion with lots of rituals? And I don't mean rituals in a bad sense in any way, just symbolic actions and routines. I know Judaism has a lot (well, if you're orthodox) but I'm not a Jew by race, and do not believe in the Judeo-Christian God (similar problems with Catholiscism.) I just find that tradition and ritual makes my life seem more meaningful (and making up my own seems a bit...naff)

I used to work at a deli. One day a beautiful, black came in and ordered a vegetarian sandwich. She told me she had been fasting for quite sometime. She said that she was a "daughter of the universe," and blessed me before she left.

If you do not believe in moral absolutes how could you possibly call the horrible things that Adolph Hitler did or what child molesters and abortion clinic bombers do wrong? After all, every person rightly sets their own moral standard. What those people did was "right" in thier eyes. If one states that the actions of any particular individual is horrible or good or bad he/she is making a morally absolute statement. If you agree that each person decides and sets his/her own moral standards then wouldn't you have to say that a gang member is doing good when he "caps" someone around children and bystanders and rapes someone? After all (in his eyes) he is "improving" himself and his status in the gang. When a rich oil exec steals from employee retirement funds he is doing good because is improving his own pocketbook?
If you do believe in moral absolutes, you believe in one right and one wrong for most every situation, what is THE moral authority?
Is it the Bible?

Christians or Muslims

Christians have had SUPER holy things like witch-burnings/inquisitions/crusades

Muslims have retaliations to crusades, and their own jihads and the such.
